Director, Grants and Operations

Opportunity Overview
Wittington Philanthropy supports the development and execution of our philanthropic agenda, by identifying opportunities that can help build a strong Canada. Wittington is looking to grow its Philanthropy team with the addition of a Director, Grants and Operations. Reporting to the Senior Director, Wittington Foundations, the Director will support a range of initiatives across the grant lifecycle. The successful candidate will provide strong grants management to a diverse portfolio, support new grant development and oversee aspects of our grant operations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation working with grantmakers, whether from consulting, or philanthropic organizations, and a deep passion for creating positive societal impact.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead grants and relationship management on low-medium complexity grants
- Support and, at times, lead new grant development, strategy development and conduct due diligence activities
- Lead grant operations activities, including oversight of the development of a new grants management system, oversight of system (outcomes and financial) reporting, drafting gift agreements, supporting budget development as needed
- Support grantee reporting cycles, and distill reporting into synthesized reports for Foundation leadership
- Support leadership to align operational needs with organizational and grantmaking goals
- Collaborate with Wittington teams, including communications, finance, legal and tax in a positive, thoughtful and strategic manner
Required Qualifications
- The successful candidate will have 8-10 years of experience and a demonstrated track record of success working with large charitable organizations
- Strong grants management experience and skilled at fostering trusted grantee relationships
- Experience working with grantees to develop measurement frameworks and utilizing data/information from evaluations to inform future decisions
- Ability to research new topics and develop an understanding of issues, opportunities, etc.
- Proven project management abilities to structure work in executable pieces, support complex projects and work with cross-functional teams to effectively deliver across a variety of priorities
- Excellent communication skills to distill key messages for senior audiences and effectively present findings, recommendations and opinions
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and synthesize input from a variety of sources to provide clarity and recommendations
- Relevant university degree(s) (e.g., bachelors, MA, MBA, etc.)
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, especially PowerPoint and Excel.
