Job Description of Junior Microbiologist

The junior microbiologist performs routine microbiology tests, conduct environmental monitoring, and perform laboratory duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Follow laboratory safety requirements and standard operating procedures as applicable.

• Media preparation, culture maintenance, culture and media waste disposal.

• Conduct microbial enumeration and identification tests on raw materials, packaging components, intermediate and finished products.

• Gram stain, reading plates, water and EM sample collection and testing.

• Assist Senior Microbiologist and supervisor in investigations and contribute to continuous improvement.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• B.Sc. degree or college diploma in microbiology or equivalent discipline.

• Basic knowledge of aseptic techniques and media preparation and culture maintenance.

• Knowledge of current USP and/or ISO microbiology test procedures.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

• Experience in cosmetics, pharmaceutical or food industries is an asset.
