Located in the city’s Southwest, it provides acute, outpatient, critical care, surgical, medical, neonatal intensive care, mental health, seniors, women’s and emergency health services. The facility is home to two units dedicated to the Acute Geriatric Units (AGU) for the Calgary Zone. As a Protective Services team member, you will nurture positive relationships with all the patients, families, staff, and the community. As a successful candidate, you must be acutely aware of the empathy required while at the same time continuing to maintain your authority and ensure the safety of everyone. You will have the ability to solve diverse and sensitive problems while collaboratively and proactively coming up with alternate solutions. As the first to respond and record all security events, you will need strong interpersonal and communication skills to promote collaboration and respect while mitigating high-stress situations. Your compassion and ability to relate to patients, families, staff, visitors, and communities help deescalate conflict and create a positive, safe, diverse, and welcoming environment for all. Description:
As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General.
- Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program).
- Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence.
- Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum two years of related work experience OR a related degree or diploma in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology. Other related education may be considered. Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services. Community involvement or volunteering (unpaid positions). Knowledge of or training in harm reduction, anti-racism and Indigenous awareness. Fluent in more than 1 language is an asset. Comfortable and experienced with public speaking.
