Overview

The Saskatchewan Research Council’s (SRC) Corporate Services team is seeking a Director, Artificial Intelligence to set up and lead SRC’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) function. This role will develop and deliver SRC’s AI strategy and organizational AI framework. The Director will work closely with SRC Divisions to deliver high-value AI projects and services that improve internal performance and applied AI offerings for external clients.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement an organization-wide AI strategy and multi-year roadmap to support applied research, operational excellence, and commercial growth

  • Establish an enterprise AI framework and operating model, including governance structures, intake and prioritization processes, ethical AI standards, data and model lifecycle practices, and performance measurement

  • Define and enforce AI standards for tools, platforms, model development, validation, deployment, monitoring, and documentation to ensure quality, reproducibility, and compliance

  • Collaborate proactively with SRC Divisions to systematically identify, define, and prioritize high-impact AI opportunities across operational and industrial domains. Leading the scoping and assessment of these opportunities with the goal of implementing innovative, best-in-class AI solutions that significantly enhance safety, operational efficiency, product and service quality, and customer outcomes

  • Champion the deployment of transformative AI technologies and processes that drive measurable improvements, foster impactful innovation, and secure SRC’s position as a leader in the field. Through these efforts, strengthen SRC’s competitive advantage by ensuring that AI-enabled applications deliver tangible value, sustainable differentiation, and set new benchmarks for operational excellence within the industry

  • Build and maintain a long-term resource and capability plan for the AI function, including skills development, staffing capacity, budget forecasting, tooling needs, and future demand planning

  • Provide leadership and support to the AI team through continuous coaching and development, goal setting, and performance evaluations, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment

  • Manage the AI budget and recommend AI technology and platform investments based on business value, risk, and total cost of ownership

  • Establish and monitor KPIs for AI adoption, value delivery, and responsible AI risk management, providing regular reporting to SRC leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, advanced analytics, applied research and development, or technology commercialization
  • Proven experience developing AI strategies, frameworks, and enterprise adoption in complex, multi-disciplinary organizations
  • Experience in a research, laboratory, or industrial environment is an asset

Skills

  • Strong communication skills to explain complex AI concepts in simple and easy-to-understand terms
  • People leadership capability to grow and develop high-performing teams
  • Highly collaborative, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders through effective communication and use of relevant data
  • Analytical thinking skills to assess data, recommend improvements and drive measurable outcomes

The chosen candidate will also be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt.

This position is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
