Senior Microsoft Fabric & Power BI Architect Location: Edmonton, AB (Hybrid) Contract Term: Initial 1-year contract with extension options
We are seeking an elite Senior Microsoft Fabric & Power BI Architect to lead a multi-year modernization initiative.
This is not just a development role—you will be the visionary responsible for architecting a high-impact, scalable data ecosystem. Your mission will be to unify siloed systems, including Excel, SharePoint, the HOME System, Partner Portal, and Find Housing, into a single, seamless, and trusted data journey.
If you are a champion of the Microsoft data ecosystem who can balance advanced data engineering (Medallion Architecture standards) with exceptional front-end design (Power BI and pixel-perfect Paginated Reports), while also driving user enablement and adoption, this opportunity is for you.
Core Architectural & Delivery Focus
- Scalable Architecture & Medallion Standards Design and manage sustainable data products within Microsoft Fabric while providing expert guidance on selecting the right tools throughout the data lifecycle. Ingestion & Transformation Build robust, automated ETL/ELT processes using Fabric Pipelines and Dataflows. Storage Strategy Implement a clear Medallion Architecture (Bronze → Silver → Gold) within Fabric Lakehouses and Warehouses to organize enterprise data by maturity and business value. Semantic Layering Design highly optimized, report-ready semantic models that enable high-performance Power BI analytics and reporting.
- End-to-End Report Development Apply proven methodologies focused on data accuracy, exceptional user experience (UX), and performance optimization across reporting solutions. Interactive Dashboards Design and develop dynamic, modern Power BI dashboards from concept to deployment. Paginated Reports Create and deploy pixel-perfect operational and executive reports using SSRS Report Builder and Power BI Paginated Reports.
- Best Practices, Training & Change Management Bridge the gap between complex technical solutions and business adoption through comprehensive training and enablement programs. Advanced Technical Training Train technical users on Fabric architecture, Notebooks, Dataflows, Pipelines, and data engineering best practices. Business User Training Provide foundational training to business stakeholders on report consumption, data interpretation, and self-service analytics.
- Requirements Elicitation & Process Optimization Act as the key liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams. Gather, analyze, and translate business requirements into scalable data solutions. Work closely with non-technical stakeholders to understand and simplify complex workflows. Identify opportunities to streamline processes, eliminate duplication, and consolidate overlapping reporting efforts. Drive continuous improvement across reporting and analytics capabilities. Required Qualifications Experience Requirements 5+ years of expert-level experience with Power BI, including advanced DAX, Power Query, and Paginated Reports (SSRS). 3+ years of hands-on experience in data modeling, solution architecture, and implementation within Microsoft Fabric, including: Dataflows Notebooks Pipelines Warehouses Lakehouses 3+ years of experience designing and implementing certified datasets, semantic models, and enterprise data governance frameworks. Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. Certifications (Highly Preferred) Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700) Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-600)
