Job Description:

City University of Seattle in Canada is looking for a part-time Associate Program Director to join its distinguished team of faculty and staff in the School of Health and Social Sciences, Edmonton AB Campus. The ideal candidates are qualified counseling professionals with knowledge and experience in post-secondary education and leadership.

School Description:

City University of Seattle's School of Health and Social Sciences is one of the lead producers of counselors for Washington State and British Columbia, Canada. Aside from counseling, SHSS touts highly ranked and in-demand certificate, undergraduate and graduate programs in health and human services, criminal justice and general studies.

Programs in this School serve students who want to better society and help people. Each program sets students up for success by teaching them the skills and knowledge necessary to advance their careers in the pathway they select.

Job Summary:

The Associate Program Director reports to an Academic Program Director and contributes to a quality student experience by ensuring the success of program components, including program design, assessment, technology integrations, and curriculum development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Program Coordination

Assists the Academic Program Director by assessing, reviewing, and developing specified program components. Maintains program currency and assists in the effort to review and revise programs to enhance the student learning experience.

2. Teaching Excellence

Teaches 2 courses or the equivalent, within compensation, as assigned by the Academic Program Director, to ensure quality of program and student learning experience. Models excellence in teaching and learning and fosters student development.

3. Performance of Teaching Faculty

Assists the performance of teaching faculty in designated program components. Establishes expectations for excellence in teaching and learning under the supervision of the Academic Program Director. Ensures effective orientation, training, mentoring, and coaching to foster a respectful, empowering learning environment that contributes to a positive faculty and student experience.

4. Curriculum Development and Review

Assists the Academic Program Director in ensuring that program curriculum is in alignment with the CityU Academic Model and focuses on application and current practice. Assumes responsibility for developing program components as assigned and for evaluating and updating existing curriculum. Assists the Academic Program Director in ensuring alignment of program with accreditation standards.

5. Student Learning and Development

Supports student learning and engagement. Proactively develops students to become responsible, ethical and self-directed professionals.

6. Academic and Institutional Governance

Engages in formal and informal academic and institutional governance by serving on councils and committees.

7. Currency and Scholarship

Ensures currency of assigned faculty. Models, encourages, and promotes scholarship in teaching and learning.

8. Service and Outreach

Participates in and promotes professional communities in area(s) of expertise.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • A registered psychologist or clinical counsellor with a doctorate in counselling and/or psychology. Minimum of 5 years clinical experience.
  • Experience in higher education management and adult education an asset.
  • Ability to address student academic-related issues and concerns in support of retention and student success. Demonstrated experience leading and managing in a creative and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work comfortably with and manage virtual teams.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Must be able to relate to and communicate with diverse students, faculty, staff, and external communities.
  • Ability to present a professional image on behalf of the academic school and CityU.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and learning management systems in support of quality teaching and learning.

Salary information:

CAD $42,000/year - $45,000/year DOE

This is a part-time exempt position, scheduled for 20 hours per week.
