Health and Wellness Lab Attendant
Position Summary
The School of Health and Wellness is currently seeking a Lab Attendant to join our growing team!
The Health and Wellness Lab Attendant works together with the lab staff in performing duties which enhance student learning. The Health and Wellness Lab Attendant assists with the collection and organization of specialized supplies and equipment for the School of Health and Wellness. This position will assist with lab set-up and assists with simulation events as needed.
Position Responsibilities
Inventory Stocking and Building
- Assists with the day-to-day packing, unpacking and preparation of supplies and materials
- Builds student kits according to plan sheets; distributes kits as needed
- Assists with the safe storage of hazardous materials, which may include biohazardous material, medications, and equipment
- Assists with the completion of annual inventory of all labs
- Ensures storage areas are clean and tidy
Lab Maintenance and Safety
- Performs general cleaning in Health labs, referring to contractor as necessary
- Assists with movement of lab equipment from one lab to another
- Makes recommendation for repairs or assists with minor repair of equipment in consultation with Coordinator
- Ensures labs are secure when not in use
- Ensures a safe and healthy work environment, complies with polytechnic health and safety policies, practices, and programs in keeping with occupational health & safety legislation and regulation
Lab Set-up

Assists with set-up and take-down of labs as requested

Ensures faculty has access to props and assists with the application of make-up or creation of realistic looking body fluids

Assists in preparing manikins and standardized patients with appropriate make-up and props for simulation events

Moves equipment as needed

Actively acquires knowledge and skills related to this position.
Required Qualifications
-
High school diploma or equivalent to about 12 years of schooling
-
First Aid/CPR
-
At least 6 months experience
-
Safety courses such as WHMIS, OHS
-
Familiarity of health care technology
-
Ability to lift, bend and move heavy equipment essential
-
Ability to work in a demanding environment and ability to prioritize
-
Ability to troubleshoot electronic equipment
-
Ability to work independently as well as with a team
-
Basic computer skills & knowledge of Microsoft 365 (emphasis on Excel)
Preferred Qualifications
-
Two (2) years of post-secondary training, completion of a community college certificate including trades apprenticeships or equivalent in a Science or Health related field
-
General health care knowledge and health care terminology an asset
-
Experience of training in the art of moulage is an asset

$17.98/hr
Benefits and Compensation Information
An additional 15% of the hourly rate in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits.
