About the Role:

The Operations Manager – MRO is responsible for the strategic and day-to-day leadership of all maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities within the Avmax MRO facility. This role ensures that heavy maintenance and modification programs are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) regulations, CAR 573, and internal standards. The manager ensures that resources, schedules, and processes are aligned to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.

Success in this role is measured by the manager's ability to lead high-performing teams, enhance operational processes through data-driven strategies, and promote a strong, value-driven workplace culture that reflects the core principles of Avmax.

The Operations Manager reports directly to the Director of Maintenance (Canada).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • MRO Operations Management roles and responsibilities.
    • Manage and coordinate aircraft and/or component MRO activities (e.g., C-checks, heavy maintenance, structural repairs, modifications).
    • Work with project and program managers to ensure proper scheduling of personnel, bays, tooling, and parts to maximize operational efficiency and meet delivery deadlines.
    • Collaborates closely with cross-functional production teams to optimize workflow, improve turnaround times, and ensure that performance metrics and customer expectations are consistently met or exceeded.
    • Plays a key role in aligning departmental goals with company objectives, leading a team of department managers and technical staff, and driving a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Serve as the single point of contact for all departmental managers, ensuring that communication is seamless, issues are escalated appropriately, and resolutions are prompt.
    • Lead day-to-day operations across production, program management, and support functions.
    • Balance manpower allocation across programs in coordination with Program Managers.
    • Monitor operational KPIs (schedule performance, labor efficiency, rework, utilization).
    • Ensure standard processes, tools, and reporting are consistently used across projects.
    • Escalate systemic issues (capacity, supply chain, compliance) to the DOM.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives in planning, production, and quality.
    • Act as second-in-command to DOM for operations leadership.
  • Compliance & Documentation
    • Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with CAR 573, MPM, and TCCA-approved procedures.
    • Promote cross-department collaboration to support cohesive MRO operations. (Quality, Safety, Purchasing,)
    • Ensure all maintenance documentation is completed accurately, reviewed, and signed off by authorized personnel.
    • Foster a safety- and quality-first culture, leading by example on the hangar floor.
    • Enforce compliance with Safety Management System (SMS), Occupational Health & Safety policies, and hazard reporting protocols.
    • Promote continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational reliability and safety performance.
    • Provide regular status reports on maintenance progress, risks, and completion timelines.
    • Ensure discrepancies or scope changes are documented and communicated promptly.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated capability and competency in a related field of expertise.
  • Familiarity with legal documentation and compliance in aviation operations.
  • Strong fundamental aircraft knowledge considered an asset.
  • PRM – current or previously held – considered an asset.
  • B.A. designation considered an asset.

Experience

  • Proven experience in operations leadership within aviation, MRO, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience delivering business results in an operations facility.
