The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join SKYTRAC as a Senior Systems Engineer, where you will play a key role in shaping and delivering our cutting-edge avionics products. In this role, you will take ownership of all Systems Engineering deliverables and processes, working closely with a multidisciplinary team of electrical, mechanical, software, and airworthiness experts, as well as product managers, program managers, and customers. You will ensure the on-time delivery of innovative solutions while driving design excellence and system-level innovation. This position also offers pathways to leadership, subject matter expertise, and the opportunity to design and create at the forefront of aviation technology.

This position can be based out of our Kelowna, BC or Ottawa, ON office.

Responsibilities include:

  • System level design and architecture of avionics products.
  • Review, complete and support proposal compliance matrices responses.
  • Become a subject matter expert (SME) for SKYTRAC products.
  • Ownership, formal review, authoring and maintenance of System Requirements, Compliance Matrices, System Test Plans, Procedures, Test Reports.
  • Ownership of other System Engineering safety deliverables (FHA, PSA, SSA, etc.).
  • Ownership of System Deliverables such as Interface Control Documents (ICDs), User Guides / Installation Manuals and drawings.
  • Hardware-software integration and debug, SIL creation.
  • On aircraft integration and support.
  • Developmental and certification flight test support.
  • Manage lifecycle upgrades while ensuring compliance with airworthiness and safety regulations.
  • Collaboration with and creation of artefacts required by airworthiness authorities (EASA, TCCA, FAA).
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams including avionics engineers, software developers, and operations personnel.
  • Provide technical mentorship and lead design reviews, technical audits, and system verification activities.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for certification and operational use.

What You Bring

Candidate Must Have’s

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years in system engineering roles, with at least 3 years in aerospace, defense, or other regulated industries.
  • Strong knowledge of avionics integration, aerospace communication systems, and ground systems.
  • Proficient with Requirements Management tools and associated methodologies (DOORS, RMSys).
  • Experience with system safety assessment methodologies and relevant standards.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux/Windows environments, networking, and system automation.
  • Proficient with system modelling and simulation tools (MATLAB, Simulink, ModelSim,..)

This will make you stand out:

  • Knowledge of interface standards and protocols such as: SPI, I2C, UART, USB, Ethernet, wireless protocols (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular), RS422/485, ARINC429, MIL-1553, PCIe.
  • Proficient and experience with u-processors, FPGAs and memory devices and associated interfaces.
  • Knowledge and experience with hardware qualification testing in accordance RTCA DO-160.
  • Knowledge of other aerospace standards such as DO-254, ARP4754, DO-178, AE AS9100.
  • Experience in: RF, DSP, Satcom (e.g. Iridium, GPS), FCC/IC/CE compliance.
  • Familiar with relevant MASPS, MOPS and ICAO standards (e.g. DO-262, DO-343 /ED-242, TSO C159e, ETSI EN301 473, ISED RSS-170, FCC Part 25)
