II. THE POSITION

Grassland Ventures is looking for a full-time Senior Developer (Backend) to lead the design and delivery of innovative technology products. As the successful candidate, you will play a senior role in architecting backend systems, mentoring developers, and ensuring the scalability, performance, and reliability of mission-critical software solutions.

We are looking for someone who thrives on solving complex technical challenges, has deep experience across modern backend technologies, and can bring architectural leadership while still being hands-on in code. If you are a seasoned backend professional who enjoys guiding teams and building high-quality systems, this role may be a great fit.

As a Senior Software Developer, you will work closely with other developers, product managers, analysts, and designers, and collaborate with clients to bring impactful software to life. You’ll set the standard for backend development across projects, helping Grassland Ventures deliver scalable products for both client engagements and internal ventures.

Responsibilities

Architecture & Development

• Lead the design and implementation of backend architectures for client and venture projects
• Develop, maintain, and optimize scalable APIs and backend services
• Ensure high standards of code quality, performance, and security
• Oversee integration with cloud services (AWS, Azure) and external APIs

Leadership & Mentorship

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to backend and full-stack developers
• Set and enforce coding standards, best practices, and team workflows
• Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to quality benchmarks

Collaboration & Delivery

• Partner with project managers, product analysts, and designers to align technical solutions with business and user needs
• Help plan and estimate technical work across multiple projects
• Contribute to sprint planning, backlog grooming, and cross-functional problem solving

Innovation & Knowledge Sharing

• Stay up to date with emerging backend technologies and frameworks

• Share insights and best practices with the broader team

• Identify opportunities to improve development processes, tooling, and infrastructure

Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of backend development experience, with proven expertise in at least one core language (C#/.NET Core, Java/Spring Boot, or Golang)

• Strong experience with SQL Server and Entity Framework (or equivalent ORM)

• Proficiency in building and maintaining RESTful APIs and public-facing APIs

• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS and Azure)

• Familiarity with microservices, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines

• Experience using Jira for project management and GitHub for collaborative source control

• Critical eye for detail and ability to ensure systems are robust and production-ready

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across teams and with clients
