Description: The Registered Orthopedic Technician utilizes expert comprehensive skills to assess, plan and coordinate the evaluation of the patient using nursing knowledge and application and removal of casts, splints and traction apparatus. The incumbent will provide quality patient care through implementation, coordination, consultation, education and liaising with the interdisciplinary team. The Registered Orthopedic Technician acts as a resource to other health care professionals. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) specifying the Advanced Orthopedic area of specialized practice is required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited specialty Orthopedic Technician program. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment. PLEASE NOTE: This posting is scheduled to close at 23:59 of the posting end date but may be filled earlier under LOU #20 if a regular employee of the same classification who holds a regular position within this unit expresses their interest in this vacancy by 23:59 on the 5th calendar day following the posting date. If no such employee from this unit expresses their interest by the deadline, the vacancy shall be filled under the provisions of Article 11: Appointments & Transfers. Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in an emergency department. Previous experience in an Acute Care, Cast Clinic, Med/Surg. Preference will be given to those with one or more of the following certifications: ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, PALS, and EPIC. Experience and ability to work with cardiac monitors preferred. Dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation of ECG’s preferred. Experience with Connect Care EHR an asset.
