Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) encompasses the municipalities of the City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton County, and the District Municipality of Muskoka. With approximately 16,000 students, TLDSB has 41 elementary schools, seven secondary schools, and six Adult and Alternate Education Centres.

The Trillium Lakelands District School Board invites applications for a full time Accounting Manager to cover a leave of absence. Reporting to the Superintendent of Business Services, the Accounting Manager is a key member of the financial management team of the Board and is responsible for assisting in the preparation of the financial reporting required by the Ministry of Education and supervising the daily operations of accounting and financial reporting within the Financial Services Department.

Overall the incumbent in this position will contribute to student achievement and the TLDSB Mission Statement by ensuring that Board stakeholders have access to timely and accurate financial information for reporting and decision–making purposes.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with the preparation of reporting to the Ministry of Education, including annual and interim financial statements, estimates and revised estimates
  • Supervise accounting department staff and their daily operations
  • Provide internal support for the financial software system
  • Develop spreadsheet and database applications to assist in the reporting function of this position
  • Administer the school generated funds software and processes
  • Assist in the administration of Board credit cards
  • Identify efficiencies to streamline financial operations, including system modifications and policy, procedure and process improvements
  • Supervise the Board's internal audit functions
  • Assist in the implementation of special projects or Board-wide financial initiatives
  • Prepare draft policies and procedures for implementation of finance related matters
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • A post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Finance or other acceptable discipline
  • Minimum of three (3) years supervisory accounting experience preferably within a school board or similar public sector organization
  • Experience with accounting software system
  • Excellent computer skills, with expertise using Microsoft
  • Exposure to Google Drive
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities
  • A proven ability to work in a team environment
  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated initiative, ability to organize work and prioritize tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to deal with strict deadlines and confidential information
