Please note this is a Casual/On Call Kitchen Assistant and Educator (dual) position.
We are presently seeking a Casual Assistant Chef/Kitchen Assistant and Educator (dual role) for our Calgary Seton location. Ideal candidates will have previous experience in a kitchen, preferably in daycare settings, retirement homes, catering, or similar work environments. who possess a strong understanding of child development, exceptional engagement skills, and a dedication to fostering positive relationships with both children and colleagues.
A successful candidate would be highly motivated, adaptable, organized, physically fit, and possess strong multitasking skills. This person must have a current criminal record check (with vulnerable sections search), first aid certification and food safe certification (completed within the past 5 years), or be willing to obtain these items upon being hired. This person must either posses a Level 1 Alberta Child Care certification, or be willing to work towards it.
This is an on-call position where Directors will reach out to employees to cover shifts when regular Chef/Educators are absent.
Key Responsibilities
Assisting with preparing meals for approximately 500 children for breakfast, lunch, and snacks according to pre-set menus and recipes Ensuring the cleanup of dishes and ensuring the kitchen's cleanliness and sanitation In the absence of the Lead Chef/Cook, Assistant Cook will take charge of all their responsibilities Adherence to all Alberta health, fire and food safety regulations, as well as Active Start's Food Safety Plan Weekly food ordering using our food order guide and managing deliveries Leading and supporting children in integrated learning and recreational activities. Actively supervising and engaging with children while ensuring their well-being.
Qualifications
Prior childcare/daycare (or similar work setting) kitchen experience is required Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
Level 1, 2 or 3 Child Care Certification (or willingness to obtain)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong organizational and multitasking abilities Professional, adaptable, and fluent in English Knowledge of Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulations (preferred) Why Join Active Start?
