Position Summary
The RNFA/RN composite position will work a combination of both RNFA and RN shifts and will be scheduled for each as required. Each posted schedule will indicate which shifts are scheduled as RNFA shifts and which shifts are scheduled as RN shifts. The nurse will be paid at the applicable rate for the shift they are working.
Required
- Current Certificate of Registration, in good standing, from the College of Nurses of Ontario as an RN.
- Current certification in BCLS or ACLS, or proof of enrolment in a recertification course. You will be asked to provide a copy of your valid certificate at the time of hire/transfer.
- Canadian Nursing Association Certification in Perioperative Nursing, CPN(C).
- Active member of the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC).
- Must hold a certificate from a recognized RN First Assistant Program.
- Minimum of 5 years of recent clinical experience (within the past 3 years) in perioperative nursing.
- Must be able to practice in scrub or circulating roles.
- Must have demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills, with sound organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Must be available for all shifts and on-call duty.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload (Physical Demands Analysis PDA available to review).
Duties
- Works collaboratively with the health care team and provides leadership as well as the facilitation of clinical expertise for staff through coaching and mentorship and promotes patient advocacy through integration of clinical practice, education and evidenced based practice.
- Utilizes the Nursing Process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.
- Practices within the RNFA scope of practice as delineated by Quinte Health and may provide perioperative care when not functioning as an RNFA.
- Performs acts requiring specialized knowledge, skills and judgment in assessing health needs and in planning, administering and evaluating patient care.
- May facilitate patient optimization in the pre-surgical phase of care (i.e. through the Presurgical Assessment Clinic, ER, and inpatient units).
- Participates in the effective and efficient use of resources and facilitates patient flow and family centered care processes.
- Promotes accurate and complete documentation on clinical records.
- Participates in CI programs to ensure a high level of patient care.
- Other duties as assigned.
