Purpose of Job

The CNC Machinist Level 2 is an intermediate level position responsible for all machining, deburring and part inspection as directed by the Department Supervisor. Operators are competent in setting up, running and completing work as required with minimal oversight and direction. Operators will train and share any knowledge they have acquired with Level 1 Machinists. 

Principal Accountabilities

In addition to the requirements for the CNC Machinist Level 1

  • Maintain cleanliness of work station and perform routine maintenance.
  • Ability to create TRQ’s as required.
  • Accurately report job specific details using written or application-based formats.
  • Navigate within the Scheduling app to understand next job requirements.
  • Create and repair Non-Conforming Product records as required.
  • Set-up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision machining operation i.e. drilling, milling, etc.
  • Knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments (calipers, ID and OD micrometres, depth gages, and indicators).
  • Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines. Proficiency with tool inspection / verification
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed with an understanding of geometric tolerances and dimensions.
  • Performs and records complete manual inspection of parts as required.
  • Makes adjustments of tooling offsets to ensure quality parts.
  • Participate in Design Reviews when required. 
  • Create Narrative content as required for new, transferred or non-current parts.
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces.
  • Mentor and train other employees with the knowledge and skill the have acquired. 
  • Adjustment of work offsets to ensure quality parts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Proper use of required PPE while in plant.
  • Work safe & ergonomically by following JH&S policies.
  • Report any unsafe acts, conditions or accidents across the plant.
  • Report accidents, near misses, injuries, or illnesses immediately to your supervisor.
  • Inspect equipment and the workplace regularly.
  • Be alert for hazards.

Knowledge, Skills and Education

  • English fluency (read, write and verbal).
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in written forms.
  • Ability to take direction.
  • Ability to mentor / train junior level employees.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team.
  • Comfortable with the use of technology (iPads, workstations, etc.).
  • Enrolment in trade school or relevant program. Completion with diploma is preferred. 
  • One (1) or more years in trade or equivalent demonstrated competency.
  • Good problem solving, decision making, job task planning and organizing ability.
  • Ability to seek clarification on unclear documents or job instructions and to seek help when problems arise.
  • Proficient at reading and comprehending text and numeracy;
  • Advanced understanding of metrology (use of MMDs, GD&T, etc.)
  • Ability to work in a safe and orderly manner.
