About the role
Job Summary: The purchasing manager provides procurement expertise and leadership to support the mill. The purchasing manager complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics and ensures site compliance with regard to contracts, initiatives, and policies. This role primarily impacts site Operations/Maintenance/Finance: Optimizing material pricing, sourcing and on time deliveries. Manage/negotiate vendor contracts to minimize risk. Seek savings opportunities through competitive bids, inventory reduction & vendor payment terms. This is a departmental manager role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work in partnership with mill manufacturing, plant maintenance and/or staff groups to understand business drivers and align purchasing objectives with business goals.
- Advocate for and act as the liaison and primary point of contact with Domtar’s Central Purchasing Group.
- Sets strategic priorities and goals as Unit Leader for Storeroom & Purchasing.
- Manage purchasing processes and strategies.
- Manage and process site business transactions (i.e. day to day buying).
- Resolve procurement and storeroom issues
- Function as the mill procurement subject matter expert.
- Monitor supplier performance, resolve poor performance/exceptions and escalate as necessary to Domtar’s Central Purchasing Group.
Required Education/Professional Experiences: Minimum education, required certifications
- Associate degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or Supply Chain Management
- Five or more years’ experience in purchasing
- Experience with SAP or other business enterprise software application
- Experience in conducting competitive inquiries.
- Experience in negotiating, preparing and administering contracts and agreements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
Preferred Education/Professional Experiences: Preferred education and certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or Supply Chain Management
- Industrial Maintenance knowledge/experience is a plus
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or ability/willingness to get same preferred
- Experience with PI, CCP
- Experience with a union workforce
- Experience in developing effective procurement strategies based on supply/demand evaluations or other market analysis
Critical Competencies: Leadership, Technical, Innovation and Work Complexity
- Knowledge of supply chain/materials management and procurement principles
- Knowledge of commercial terms and business law
- Knowledge of accounting functions that applies to purchasing, strong analytical skills
- Oral and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate with outside resources
- Ability to communicate with finance, operations, and maintenance groups
You will be required to successfully complete a selection process that could include interviews, an employment background check, a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen, reference verifications, aptitude tests (for some positions), and a fitness-for-duty test (for some positions).
