The Opportunity

The Climate Resilience Branch of the Ministry of Environment is seeking a motivated and experienced individual for the position of Senior Research Officer. Reporting to the Manager of Planning and Reporting within the Adaptation and Resilience Analysis Unit, this position will provide analysis to support the development of innovative, practical and regionally tailored resilience opportunities in Saskatchewan that optimize sustainable growth and adaptation.

Major responsibilities include

  • Providing senior subject matter expertise and regionally relevant research and synthesis on resilience topics spanning adaptation approaches and valuation, carbon management, and emissions inventorying and accounting.
  • Supporting emissions and economic modelling and other technical analyses, including data sourcing, model design and development, and interpretation of results.
  • Developing and contributing to resilience reporting for Saskatchewan.
  • Delivering timely written and verbal analysis and advice on resilience issues and opportunities.
  • Preparing compelling data visualizations and information summaries to communicate results.
  • Representing the ministry on internal government and external committees as required.

Typically, the knowledge, skills and experience required to be successful in this position would have been obtained through:

  • A graduate education in a transdisciplinary field that integrates scientific and socio-economic perspectives, such as sustainability management or environmental economics.
  • Substantive professional experience applying scientific and socio-economic principles to analyze complex issues.

You will have knowledge of:

  • Adaptation and carbon management strategies and practices.
  • Regional climate and resilience issues specific to Saskatchewan.
  • Data visualization, information analysis and synthesis tools.

You will have the demonstrated ability to:

  • Analyze complex information and present results clearly and concisely for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Organize, prioritize, and adapt your work to meet objectives in a continuously changing environment

You will be:

  • A reliable, well‑organized individual who works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to anticipate issues, innovate, and develop sound recommendations.
  • Self‑motivated, flexible, and open to opportunities that come with change.

This position requires travel, including staying overnight in locations away from home. The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel, at times to remote locations, and be in possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
