About Us
Facilities Management is responsible for the planning, development, engineering, construction, operation, maintenance and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Western’s campus community, and related off-campus sites. Our integrated team provides excellence in creating and maintaining Western’s facilities, and in serving the community.
Responsibilities
Facilities Management's Landscape Services team is responsible for the maintenance of outdoor areas of campus. Our team members have a wealth of knowledge, experience, education and skill in horticulture and landscape management which they put to work every day ensuring Western continues to be Canada's most beautiful university campus. We are seeking 15 summer students to assist with this work.
General Duties:
- Install, maintain and alter softscape areas: turf, athletic fields, gardens, plant material, trees etc.
- Perform duties associated with reservation requests, special events, delivery of materials, athletic facilities, general campus cleanup, waste collection and diversion, and associated duties
Specific Duties:
- Weeding and mulching of plant beds
- Installation of plant material
- Litter and waste collection
- Mowing and trimming of turf areas
- Utilization of hand-held and walk-behind powered and manual landscape equipment and tools
- Maintenance of the Sherwood Fox Arboretum collection
Qualifications
Education:
- Currently enrolled full-time in post-secondary studies and returning full-time to post-secondary studies in the Fall
Experience:
- Preference will be given to those with previous experience in landscape maintenance and related work
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Previous experience or interest in working outdoors through a range of weather conditions
- Proven attention to detail, efficient and well-organized
- Interest or experience in horticulture or landscape maintenance
- Preferred: knowledge of Western University's campus and the Division of Facilities Management
- Preferred: G Driver's License and clean driver's abstract
