About the role

SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Senior Financial Analyst provides financial accounting, reporting services and analytical review of financial results for SaskEnergy Incorporated and its subsidiary companies. This includes month end processes, providing guidance to accounting workgroups and collaborating with internal and external contacts to complete accounting projects. The Senior Financial Analyst reviews and analyzes the impact of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) reporting requirements, accounting policy and procedure changes and coordinates the implementation and application of each.

Position Details

  • Non-union - This position is permanent full time.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the preparation of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial rate-setting and regulatory reporting for SaskEnergy and its subsidiaries.
  • Plan the year-end schedule and draft communications, adhering to tight deadlines for the preparation of working papers as well as acting as liaison with external parties.
  • Maintain the general ledger system and subledgers, ensuring accurate reflection of accounting and financial reporting in accordance with IFRS and management reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain complex data models for compliance with accounting and business policies and procedures. For example: Inventory accounting model (consolidated, subsidiaries), Cost of Gas Model, Decommissioning Liability, Customer Contributions, Lease obligations, Capitalization, Eliminations, Revenue Models and Budgeting.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and CIC schedules, including variance analysis and other data analytics as well as year-end working papers.
  • Analyze systems and processes and implement changes to improve the integrity, reliability and usefulness of information from the general ledger system.
  • Prepare regulatory reporting and other communication as required by government departments and regulators.
  • Coordinate with internal departments for management reporting and with external parties (such as external auditors, government departments, regulators, natural gas suppliers) for mandatory reporting and/or queries/confirmations related to financial statements and other reporting requirements.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Degree in Business Administration or Commerce.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Three (3) years of accounting and financial experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on a team while building and maintaining effective relationships.
  • Must have a continuing record of professional development and continuous learning.

A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.

Additional Information

  • Travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters, is required on occasion.
  • A Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
