Position Summary
The Scheduling department is currently seeking a Permanent Part-Time Labour Relations Assistant to join their team.
Effective date: March 23, 2026
The Labour Relations Assistant is an integral part of the Human Resources Department, responsible for coordinating hospital-wide staffing and ensuring appropriate resource allocation across all departments.
This position primarily supports the short-call desk by managing sick call relief coverage, responding to leader requests for additional resources, and filling vacant shifts in accordance with established call-in procedures. The Labour Relations Assistant completes scheduling and staffing processes in compliance with applicable collective agreement language, established staffing levels, and required skill sets, in collaboration with department managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate replacement of staff due to vacation, sick calls, leaves of absence, or training.
- Communicate promptly with department leaders/delegates regarding unfilled shifts or coverage shortages.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for scheduling-related inquiries from employees and managers.
- Collaborate with department leaders, HR, and Payroll to audit and verify timekeeping accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
- May assist with scheduling investigations and related grievances.
- Supports the Attendance Management Program, sick and other regulated leaves in consultation with Occupational Health and Human Resources.
- Ensure scheduling practices comply with Employment Standards Act (ESA), Collective Agreements, Occupational Health and Safety requirements and Attendance Management policies.
- Maintains confidential employee records with the highest level of discretion and accuracy.
- May assist with developing, maintaining and adjusting master schedules.
- Assist with other Human Resources projects from time to time.
Essential Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Recent relevant experience in a staff scheduling environment (health care preferred)
- Experience in the roles of daily staffing and schedule posting in an unionized environment (working knowledge of scheduling language related to the ONA, OPSEU, and CUPE collective agreements preferred)
- Experience in Labour Relations
- Experience with computerized scheduling and timekeeping systems (UKG preferred)
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and HR Information Systems
- Excellent organization and administration skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities within a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail while working through complex processes
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team displaying willingness to assist others and supporting team decisions
- Demonstrated consistent punctuality and attendance record, maintaining a high level of reliability and commitment to performing duties with efficiency and effectiveness in previous roles

- Payroll coding experience
Hours of Work
Must be available to work day and evening shifts, Monday to Sunday.
