The Opportunity

McElhanney is excited to add a Transportation Project Manager to our team in Calgary, AB.

We are seeking a transportation engineer with strong technical skills and a growing foundation in project coordination or management, who is eager to take the next step in developing as a project leader.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering impactful transportation projects - from early planning through execution. Working alongside experienced and multidisciplinary teams, you’ll keep projects on track, within budget, and aligned with client goals. From traffic studies to long-range planning and innovative design, your expertise will fuel smart, practical solutions. You'll be the trusted voice translating complex technical data into clear, actionable strategies that inform decisions, engage stakeholders, and move communities forward.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and manage the full lifecycle of transportation planning and engineering projects - from proposal development, scoping, and budgeting through detailed design, implementation, and closeout.
  • Develop and actively manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations to meet or exceed performance, quality, and delivery benchmarks.
  • Direct and coordinate multidisciplinary teams across multiple offices and disciplines, promoting collaboration and efficiency in achieving project goals.
  • Prepare and manage comprehensive project documentation, including technical specifications, financial tracking reports, progress summaries, and contract deliverables.
  • Mentor junior engineering staff by providing technical guidance, performance feedback, and support for their ongoing professional development.

What You'll Bring

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in transportation engineering, operations, or planning, with growing involvement in project management and a strong interest in continuing to develop as a project manager.
  • Registration in good standing as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.), Professional Technologist (P.Tech), or Professional Transportation Planner
  • Experience supporting transportation projects with growing responsibility in budgeting, scheduling, client coordination, and producing technical documentation and proposals.
  • Familiarity with planning and design standards from Alberta Transportation, the City of Calgary, and the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC), and other North American jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage teams effectively, expertly handling multiple tasks and priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Valid (or in progress) Class 5 driver’s license.

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $ 95,000 – 140,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
