The Program – Foster Care Are you a compassionate and organized human services professional with experience working with children and families? Do you have a passion for assisting families to see children and youth reach their maximum potential, building strong supportive networks and connecting to culture and community?
The Enviros Foster Care program provides the best possible care to children at a time of upheaval in their lives by matching a foster home to the needs of the child. When children are unable to remain in their own homes or with family members, Enviros offers Foster Care for children under the age of 18.
Enviros currently has 76 contracted Foster Care beds. Although the duration of care can differ, Foster Care is not designed as a permanent placement. Our priority is to reunify children with their parents or transition them to a stable, lifelong home. Throughout their placement, we work closely with children, families, cultural supports, and community partners to promote safety, belonging, and continuity of care.
The Position – Family Support Practitioner Reporting to the Program Supervisor and working collaboratively with the Foster Care Team Clinician, the Family Support Practitioner (FSP) supports Enviros foster families through offering strategy, resources and advocacy for both children in foster homes as well as the foster parents. The family Support Practitioner has a deep understanding of working with children who have been exposed to trauma and neglect. The FSP plays a teaching and supportive role with foster parents and brings their experience working within the Children’s Services filed. Through regular meetings, phone calls and in-person visit, foster parents are supported to provide optimal care and support to children under their care. FSP’s may be called upon to attend school meetings, medical appointments, case team meetings (both scheduled and incident-base, to ensure each foster child is receiving all the help they require.
Hours This is a full-time 1 FTE (40 hours/week) with hours generally as follows:
Monday – Friday – with participation on rotating on-call schedule (2-3 times/year);
Occasional training events and cultural activity may be outside of regular hours, participation is required.
Skills/ Qualifications/Experience
- Diploma / Undergraduate Degree in Human Services and/or two years experience
- Highly organized with strong experience with various reporting tools and frameworks
- Understanding and Openness to Indigenous Culture
- Experience in the Children’s Services Sector
- Strong decision-making, interpersonal, verbal and written skills
- Understanding of Trauma Informed Practice
- Ability to work well collaboratively and independently as part of a larger team.
- Strong computer literacy
- A current criminal record check including vulnerable sector (completed within the last 6 months)
- A current Alberta Intervention Record Check (completed within the last 6 months)
- A current criminal record check including vulnerable sector (completed within the last 6 months)

Principle Based Practice Enviros’ Principle Based Practice is a model that utilizes principles to guide and drive action in practice, a decision-making tool in our interventions addressing critical areas of need, and the foundational structure of support for the crucial work we do incorporating strengths and culture into our day-to-day interactions. This model utilizes core principles to ensure a holistic approach is taken when supporting people. It ensures there is direction from the person served and an integrated planning mechanism where natural supports are present. This practice supports individuals to reach their vision for themselves and reduce reliance on systems.
Enviros developed our principles to reach across the organization and to be applicable in all areas of our service delivery continuum. They represent our core beliefs in supporting people. The definition and resulting action of principles are interwoven into the therapeutic models in each program and create a basis for implementation of other leading practices.
