Wh****at You Will Work On

As a member of the Civil Engineering Division, you will lead the Civil Design aspects of Land Development projects for clients across Western Canada. Included in this is the opportunity to support projects through all phases of development including Area Structure Plans, Rezoning, Subdivision
applications and Private site designs (site servicing, grading, & stormwater management).

About the Role

As Senior Land Development Design Technologist, you will serve as a lead designer and take
ownership of project design from initial concept through final delivery. You are entrusted with the responsibility to guide the vision and execution of each land development project, ensuring that designs thoughtfully balance the desires of our clients with municipal requirements and standards. Your leadership will be central to shaping the technical direction and creative solutions for each project, working closely with clients to interpret and realize their goals while navigating the regulatory landscape.

As a lead designer, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and be supported by an engineer as required, the direction and quality of the design will be under your stewardship. What you will do at WATT:

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and technologists on the design of various land development and infrastructure projects. In this client-facing role, you will be responsible for presenting and clearly articulating the strengths and trade-offs of your designs, as well as explaining the rationale behind any proposed alterations to clients.

  • With guidance from an Engineer, you will also conduct technical assessments of stormwater, sanitary, and water distribution systems to ensure that project solutions meet both client expectations and municipal requirements.

  • Work as part of a team to produce engineering drawings, including block profiles, using Civil 3D, in accordance with the Municipalities' requirements and specifications.

  • Coordinate directly with municipalities and/or architects to develop solutions which are acceptable to all parties.

  • Ability to work independently with very minimal supervision.

  • Assist with meeting deadlines.

  • Support with obtaining approvals.

What you bring to WATT:

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Engineering and Drafting Technology.

  • Registered or eligible for registration with ASET.

  • 8+ years’ experience in the civil engineering discipline with focus on land development, subdivisions, and private sites work.

  • Experience working on land development projects in the Edmonton and/or Calgary regions.

  • Knowledge and experience with municipal land development permitting requirements

  • Proficiency using Civil 3D and AutoCAD software is essential.

  • Fundamental understanding of stormwater management (including LEED and LID)

  • Comprehensive knowledge of drafting and engineering principles is required.

  • Strong presentation, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Excellent technical skills and attention to details.
