About the Organization
Solutions for Kids in Pain (SKIP) is a national knowledge mobilization network and a Dalhousie University Research Centre whose mission is to improve children’s pain management by mobilizing evidence-based solutions through coordination and collaboration. SKIP’s focus is on knowledge mobilization. Specifically, SKIP leads activities and initiatives that mobilize the best available research on children’s pain from around the globe to ensure that existing evidence is effectively shared, translated, and applied in practice and in policy across Canadian health institutions. Our goal is to improve children’s pain management in Canada and beyond.
Job Summary
Reporting to SKIP’s Scientific Director, the Project Coordinator will be based in Halifax, Nova Scotia in SKIP’s Administrative Centre on the Dalhousie Halifax campus. They will work closely with the Associate Scientific Director, Managing Director, other Project Coordinator(s), and broader national network. A key responsibility of this role is to support SKIP’s knowledge mobilization efforts by summarizing and critically appraising existing research evidence on children’s pain. The Project Coordinator will also play a pivotal role in leading the planning, execution, and evaluation of various projects and initiatives at SKIP (e.g., supporting efforts for widespread adoption of the Pediatric Pain Management health standard [CAN/HSO13200:2023] at diverse hospitals across Canada), as well as general operations.
Key Responsibilities

Regularly review, critically appraise, summarize, and synthesize research on pediatric pain management topics to ensure that SKIP’s knowledge mobilization efforts are based on high-quality evidence and remain current, relevant, and impactful.

Support funding and publication opportunities by helping to write and edit funding applications and publications about SKIP’s activities, and prepare other materials like conference abstracts, posters, and presentations for different audience types.

Provide administrative and operational support for SKIP’s activities by helping with scheduling, organizing meetings, tracking project progress, and maintaining project records and information in alignment with Dalhousie’s policies and procedures.

Assist in SKIP’s efforts to build awareness about the importance of quality pain management for children by preparing and sharing evidence-based information with health professionals, decision-makers, families, and the public.

Develop and maintain strong and positive relationships with diverse audiences, including researchers, organizational partners, health professionals, and patients and caregivers, to ensure their expertise helps to shape SKIP’s resources and strategies.

Responsible for collecting and tracking the activities of the SKIP Network and collecting feedback from partners to shape reports to funders and the public to measure and showcase the impact of SKIP’s work.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on the Dalhousie campus and remote work from Halifax Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
All applications from outside of Nova Scotia should indicate that the applicant is willing to relocate to Halifax.
National and/or international travel, estimated to be approximately <5%-time commitment, may be required. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet deadlines and other operational requirements.
Required Qualifications
-
Master’s or professional degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., science, health, medicine, or equivalent) with expertise in gathering, critically appraising, and synthesizing evidence, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex topics into plain language, and to tailor messaging for diverse audiences.

Demonstrated skill in academic writing with a track record of contributing to successful publications and funding applications and with a demonstrated ability to deliver clear, compelling, and accessible presentations to diverse audiences.

Proven experience leading collaborative projects and building partnerships in a virtual environment.

Attention to detail with high regard for quality and the ability to work quickly and accurately.

Highly skilled in Microsoft Office suite tools, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint, to support document and presentation development, activity tracking, and maintenance of records and information.

Strong communication (written and verbal), organizational, and relationship building skills , along with the ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaboratively.
Assets

Prior experience in a hospital-setting, pediatrics, implementation science, and/or pain management.

Prior experience with evaluating projects or programs.

Proficiency in French, both verbal and written, as SKIP engages with diverse partners and knowledge users across Canada, including Francophone communities.
