Position Summary
Reporting tothe Dean, Faculty of Arts, Science & Management the Studio Assistant – Fine Arts – Sculpture, Ceramics, Painting, Drawing, Photography and Printmaking provides support for faculty in their responsibilities for students and technical supervision and assistance for students in the use of Fine Arts facilities, equipment, materials and processes.

Duties & Responsibilities
-
Demonstrate safe equipment use to students.
-
Demonstrate safe use of hazardous materials to students.
-
Assist faculty in the demonstration of various processes and techniques related to Sculpture, Ceramics, Painting, Drawing, Analogue and/or Digital photography and Printmaking..
-
Provides follow-up technical assistance to students.
-
Organizes and prepares studios and materials for classes and for use by students and faculty in accordance with curriculum requirements.

Ensures the general cleanliness, safety and security of the areas, including all Sculpture, Ceramics, Painting, Drawing, Analogue and Digital photography and Printmaking studios and shops.

Ensures a safe working and learning environment by adhering to WHMIS, WCB Regulations, and by following the college’s occupational health and safety policies and procedures.

Liaise with Studio Technicians on all technical issues that arise for students or faculty within the department.

Performs other related duties as requested by the supervisor.
Required Education & Experience
-
Two Year Diploma in Fine Arts with technical knowledge in one or more areas of the Fine Arts including Sculpture, Ceramics, Painting, Drawing, Analogue and/or Digital photography and Printmaking practices.

Six months experience.

OFA Level One and WHMIS training
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
-
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively the fundamental characteristics and processes in Sculpture, Ceramics, Painting, Drawing, Analogue and/or Digital photography and Printmaking studios.

Ability to supervise in the safe use of all equipment used in Sculpture, Ceramics, Painting, Drawing, Analogue and/or Digital photography and Printmaking areas.
-
Supervisory skills and the ability to make decisions with considerableindependence within policies and guidelines.
-
Good physical condition with ability to lift and carry 22 kg.
