The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Job Information
Located in Yellowknife, the Airport Technical Specialist reports to the Manager, Technical Services ¿ Air & Transportation, and works with Department staff, other GNWT and Federal Departments, Transport Canada, Environment Canada, Indigenous organizations, municipalities, air carriers and third-party clients. The incumbent provides support for the delivery of the Northwest Territories¿ Public Airports Program which oversees 27 public Airports across the North.
The position provides specialized technical and engineering support, advice and expertise on all matters related to airport planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance. Their role ensures airport operational safety, regulatory compliance and certification and directly impacts the safety of the travelling public within our public airport system. Working with multiple legislative frameworks which include but are not limited to the Aeronautics Act, Canadian Aviation Regulations, (TP312) Aerodrome Standards and Recommended Practices, (TP1247) Land Use in the Vicinity of Airports, Federal Zoning Regulations, Canada Flight Supplement and other Transport Canada and NAV Canada regulations and information publications.
Provide digital mapping, design, analysis and presentation materials, database products and services to support and guide the planning, economic development, maintenance and monitoring of the operational and regulatory environment of the NWT system of public airports. Overseeing data acquisition, transformation, interpretation, extraction and distribution.
The Airport Technical Specialist also guides and supports the provision of database and design products and the development and management of an electronic database system for all 27 public Airports within the Northwest Territories (NWT).
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
A post-secondary technical diploma in civil, architectural, construction, or geomatics, with two (2) years of relevant experience.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Equivalencies: A post-secondary technical certificate in civil, architectural, construction, or geomatics, with three (3) years of relevant experience.
Relevant experience includes;
¿ Airport digital mapping, design and analysis.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
