Your Role
As the Senior Operations Manager, you are a key member of the Alberta, British Columbia and Far North leadership team. You will help shape the strategic direction of the region while ensuring all operational objectives are met. In this role, you will optimize the human, physical and financial resources under your responsibility and provide recommendations to the leadership team.
Under the overall authority of the Senior Director, you will work in tandem with your colleagues from Programming, Communications, Human Resources and Finance to plan and organize the production and delivery of content across all platforms. You will also serve as a liaison with CBC infrastructure managers at stations across the region.
Key Tasks:
- Contribute to high-level strategic planning, with a specific focus on defining content production and delivery objectives across all platforms.
- Advise the Senior Director and leadership team on priority actions to achieve departmental objectives.
- Clearly convey organizational priorities and expectations to employees and partners.
- Lead the recruitment process for your team and support hiring initiatives across other departments.
- Supervise and direct all technical staff in the region.
- Provide a work environment that fosters commitment, engagement, innovation and high performance.
- Evaluate performance and determine staff training and development requirements.
- Plan succession for staff under your purview to ensure business continuity.
- Participate in various local, regional and national committees upon request.
- Keep up to date on new technology and workflows in the radio, television and digital industries.
- Assess operating budget needs, recommend solutions to management and monitor expenses in line with allocated departmental budgets.
- Oversee daily operations with the support of two producers, ensuring all activities comply with CBC/Radio-Canada technical, production and journalistic standards, as well as HR and Finance policies.
- Develop close working relationships with English Services, Regional Media and other components to maximize collaboration and resource co-ordination.
- Advise production teams and media partners on the various processes and available resources, as well as on monitoring adherence to production standards.
- Co-ordinate logistics (travel, security, communications and transmission) for major regional deployments.
- Fulfil other duties and responsibilities associated with the position of Senior Operations Manager as required.
This is a hybrid role with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.
What You Bring:
- Five (5) years’ leadership and/or people management experience.
- Five (5) years’ experience in broadcasting (digital, television, radio) or a related field.
- Solid leadership skills, along with the ability to influence and engage teams.
- Proven strategic and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to clearly articulate strategic direction and objectives.
- Outstanding critical thinking skills, coupled with the ability to analyze complex situations and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Strong understanding of broadcast and digital technologies and workflows.
- Ability to manage and track multiple projects and priorities simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Tact, diplomacy and professional judgment.
- An innovative mindset and a willingness to challenge and improve existing tools and processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and French.
- Willingness to travel regularly.
- Ability to work effectively for extended periods of time under pressure and on weekends when necessary.
