The Clinical Manager is responsible for the management of the day to day functions of the program and for staff development and continuing education of staff members, students, co-operative students or volunteers of the program. The Clinical Manager will support the provision of effective and efficient delivery of nursing services to patients on a 24 hours basis; and the functioning of specific programs to ensure hospital approved standards of care and principles of Lean Quality Improvement are maintained, along with the hospital’s mission and core values.

REQUIREMENTS:

Current certificate of competence as a Regulated Health Professional
-
Minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor of Science degree in a related field
-
Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
-
Minimum of five (5) years of related or relevant experience
-
Two (2) years of formal supervisory experience within the last five (5) years preferred
-
Leadership/Management Certificate an asset
-
Knowledge and experience with health promotion principles an asset
-
Experience in Lean Management an asset
-
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
-
Demonstrated effective critical thinking and problem solving skills
-
Demonstrated effective teambuilding and coaching skills
-
Demonstrated commitment to patient and employee safety
-
Experience working with unions and union contracts
-
Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
-
Demonstrated understanding of formal and informal systems in an organizational environment
-
Demonstrated experience in clinical outcome measurement and continuous quality improvement
-
Demonstrated knowledge of computerized office applications
-
Valid class G driver’s license required
-
Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Allocates and ensures efficient use of resources and makes or recommends adjustments as required.
-
Identifies key issues and formulates solutions. Systemically reviews symptoms using PDSA methodology to uncover root causes and implements corrective or preventative measures. Uses a variety of information for problem solving.

Demonstrates proficiency managing within a Lean Management System for daily improvement.
-
Performs daily status updates and Lean team huddles at an appropriate frequency for the department
-
Collaborates with others to achieve consensual solutions and quality outputs.

Assists in the development and implementation of best practices guidelines, protocols and procedures and Accreditation Canada compliance to enhance the quality of services provided
-
Applies the principles of change management to assist staff in dealing with change and transition
-
Encourages unit/department members to participate and acknowledge their contributions
-
Coordinates orientation, performance assessment and education of department employees
-
Provides clear performance expectations
-
Actions reflect respect and empathy for others
-
Manages conflict and promotes cooperation
-
Communicates in ways which capture interest, inform and gain support
-
Fosters a positive work environment that recognizes the need to balance work and home life
-
Provides on-going coaching and support, recognizes desired behaviours

Involves appropriate organizational supports and resources to resolve problems and recognizes which issues or problems require involvement of higher authority
