The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross’ comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine.
Job Summary
The Procurement Specialist will execute sourcing of equipment and services to support Great Bear Project activities, working closely with site in Red Lake, and corporate stakeholders in the Toronto office to ensure materials and services meet all scope and technical specifications, are delivered in a timely manner, and that spend is managed according to budget. The Procurement Specialist will implement Great Bear procedures and standard industry practices in all aspects of sourcing, purchasing and contract administration, including request for proposal and bid processes, preparation, review and issue of contractual documentation.
This role is located in Red Lake, Ontario, with occasional travel to Toronto as required. The Procurement Specialist will report to the Contracts and Procurement Manager, Great Bear Project.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Sourcing analysis, market survey and contractor pre-qualification, including research and qualification of prospective suppliers by evaluating products, services, and performance according to business requirements.
- Periodically review requirements with key stakeholders, ensure planning and necessary approvals are in place for the procurement process.
- Execute procurement processes including RFIs/RFPs, evaluation, award reviews, agreements, purchase orders, change orders, terminations and contract close out as required.
- Communicate and negotiate with vendors and contractors as required to obtain optimal lead time, cost, and quality.
- Execute Purchase Orders and Service Agreements, change orders and other contract documentation.
- Support with the ongoing rentals and leases of various offices and facilities in Red Lake.
- Administer, coordinate and manage procure to pay process for goods and services ensuring consistency and compliance with all policies, guidelines, procedures and approval processes.
- Provide after award support, ensuring timely delivery of the equipment and materials.
- Generate and maintain procurement status reports and various other reports to support project’s planned and awarded commitments.

- Conduct their activities in accordance with the highest ethical standards and Kinross’ policies and procedures and reinforce procurement policies and processes with the team.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the team and vendors.
- Identify procurement related risks and mitigations and escalate issues that require management support.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements
Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Business or Finance, and a minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience in a mining or oil & gas environment is preferred. Formal training, a professional designation or certification in related area is considered an asset.

- Remains focused during challenging situations and function well under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Highly organized.
- Adapts well to constant change.
- Excellent prioritization and time management abilities and able to adhere to tight timelines.

This position is a 5X2 rotation, and is located in Red Lake, Ontario.
