About the role

Position: Infection Control Practitioner
Department: Infection Control
Duration: 3 to 6 months

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Master’s degree in nursing required or other relevant master’s degree
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required
  • Recent (within 2 to 3 years) related experience in Infection Control is required
  • Must have (2 to 4) years of recent (within 2-3 years) Hospital clinical experience required
  • Knowledge of current best practice, legislation and reporting requirements related to Infection Prevention and Control
  • Basic computer knowledge utilizing a variety of computer applications required
  • Knowledge of adult teaching and learning principals combined with some recent teaching experience required
  • Stakeholder involvement with government agencies (MOHLTC, PHO) and Infection Control organizations (IPAC Canada, PIDAC)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in patient physical assessment required

Skills/Abilities:

  • Flexibility in working hours as dictated by the needs of the program required

  • Proven excellent written and oral communication skills along with superior interpersonal skills, particularly conflict resolution required

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently required

  • Must be involved in continuing education on an annual basis and demonstrate commitment to Infection Control and Quality Improvement

  • Good attendance and work record required

  • Must demonstrate commitment to ensure their safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers and visitors

  • Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization

  • Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is an asset

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario

NBRHC has 389 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services in North Bay and throughout the northeast region.

NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving northeast Ontario; the others being Sault Area Hospital, Timmins and District Hospital and Health Sciences North (Sudbury). The area is also served by small community hospitals like Mattawa and West Nipissing General hospitals.

NBRHC’s Regional Mental Health Services provides inpatient beds in North Bay and Sudbury and outpatient and outreach services that throughout the region—from Hudson Bay to Muskoka from Sault Ste. Marie to the Quebec border.
