About the role

We’re looking for a strategic, forward-thinking Director of Marketing & Communications to lead the vision, execution, and continuous evolution of our brand and communications ecosystem at Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC). This role is central to shaping how our game and destination brands show up in the world—how players discover us, how they engage with us, and how our reputation grows across markets. The Director of Marketing & Communications will lead the vision, execution, and continuous evolution of our brand and communications ecosystem

You will oversee the full spectrum of marketing and communications activities, from brand governance and campaign development to media planning, corporate communications, and issues management. Your leadership will directly influence player acquisition, retention, and revenue performance across earned, owned, and paid channels.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute integrated marketing and communications strategies that build awareness, trust, and engagement across all channels.

  • Strengthen our game portfolio by delivering insight driven, multichannel strategies that attract new players, support retention, and drive sales performance.

  • Steward the brand’s visual and narrative identity across jurisdictions and platforms, ensuring consistency and clarity.

Brand & Product Collaboration

  • Partner closely with the Director of Product to jointly guide brand strategy and deliver targeted, insight led marketing across digital and retail environments.

  • Ensure all marketing and communications initiatives enhance the player experience and support revenue growth.

Campaign & Media Oversight

  • Lead campaign development, creative direction, and media planning in collaboration with digital, product, and external agency partners.

  • Oversee agency relationships to ensure high-quality execution and alignment with brand strategy. Quality execution and alignment with brand strategy.

Corporate & External Communications

  • Lead corporate communications, media relations, and issues management.

  • Provide public affairs support and ensure messaging aligns with corporate strategy and national initiatives.

  • Manage crisis communications planning and response in partnership with the executive team.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support communications with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity, alignment, and consistency across all touchpoints.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related field.

  • 10+years leading intergrated marketing and communications strategies in complex, multichannel environments

  • 7+years of leadership experience managing marketing, communications and creative teams.

  • A proven track record leading integrated marketing and communications strategies in a complex, multichannel environment.

  • Deep experience managing brand identity, creative development, media planning and campaign oversight.

  • Strong capability in corporate communications, issues management, public affairs and crisis response.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams, senior leaders, and external partners.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with strong narrative and storytelling ability

  • Demonstrated ability to lead change and navigate evolving business priorities.

  • A strategic mindset paired with the ability to execute and optimize.

  • A passion for player centric thinking and data driven decision-making .

You may not be very familiar with WCLC, but you’re almost certainly familiar with the products we help bring to players throughout the Prairie Provinces and the North every day; lottery games like LOTTO 6/49, SPORT SELECT, and dozens of instant scratch tickets.

WCLC is the non-profit organization authorized to manage, conduct, and operate lotteries – at retail and online – and other gaming-related activities for the governments of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba as well as the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.
