Expectations of the Role
Mission Statement
Design and deliver scalable Salesforce solutions that help grantmaking organizations streamline operations and maximize their impact. As Salesforce Technical Lead, you will serve as the senior technical authority within projects, ensuring that our solutions are well-architected, maintainable, and aligned with Salesforce and Grantbook best practices. Reporting to and collaborating closely with the Salesforce Delivery Lead, you will focus on the technical depth of solutions, mentoring developers and consultants, guiding design decisions, and building reusable frameworks.
Expected Outcomes
Technical Leadership & Mentorship
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to both clients and internal consultants, ensuring Salesforce solutions are well-architected, maintainable, and aligned with industry best practices.
- Able to translate philanthropic, and in particular grantmaker, requirements into sector-specific solutions that are replicable and may differ from the general Salesforce practices.
- Mentor architects, developers and implementation consultants, building technical confidence across the team and creating clear pathways for skill growth.
- Proactively stay current on Salesforce platform releases, especially non-profit solutions, including but not limited to Sales Cloud, Nonprofit Cloud, Grantmaking, Nonprofit Success Pack, Experience Cloud, and translate these updates into actionable improvements for our clients and team.
Quality and Delivery Excellence
- Establish and maintain quality assurance practices, including solution reviews, reusable templates, configuration and testing frameworks, that elevate delivery consistency across projects.
- Lead technical peer reviews, weekly office hours, and knowledge-sharing sessions to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and accountability.
- Ensure all solutions are client-ready, resilient, and flexible enough to support the future evolution of grantmaker needs.
Reusable Sector Solutions (Managed Packages)
- Drive the development of reusable managed packages tailored to grantmaker business processes (applications, reviews, approvals, contracting, payments, grantee reporting).
- Lead working groups to identify priority features for packaging, balancing sector standardization with client-specific customization.
- Build and maintain an internal knowledge base of approved tools, features, and integrations to accelerate project delivery.
Strategic Contribution
- Collaborate with the Salesforce Delivery Lead on project governance, process improvements, and the long-term technical roadmap for Grantbook's Salesforce practice.
- Contribute to Grantbook's thought leadership by co-authoring quarterly blog posts, speaking at internal forums, and sharing insights on Salesforce innovations for grantmakers.
- Strengthen Grantbook's reputation as a trusted partner for complex Salesforce implementations and managed services in the philanthropic sector.

Skills & Qualifications
- Required

- 8+ years Salesforce configuration and solution design, ideally in the nonprofit or grantmaking sector (including Nonprofit Cloud and Experience Cloud).
- 5+ years translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions, with the ability to advise on design tradeoffs between declarative and programmatic approaches.
- Track record in delivering complex projects, ideally within the philanthropic sector.
- Experience in building a knowledge database of managed packages, frameworks and reusable templates.
- Proven ability to mentor and guide other Salesforce professionals, providing peer reviews and technical leadership in a consulting or client-facing environment.
- Experience with integrations using APIs and middleware (e.g. MuleSoft, Boomi, Informatica, Workato) to connect Salesforce with finance, grant portals, and reporting systems.
- Experience with data migration at scale, ensuring accuracy, data integrity, and long-term maintainability.
- Familiarity with Apex, SOQL, Lightning Web Components (LWC), and front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, Liquid).
- Awareness of Salesforce security best practices and compliance considerations (e.g., GDPR, data privacy for nonprofits/foundations).
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into plain English for non-technical client stakeholders.

- Prior experience contributing to or developing managed packages or reusable frameworks within Salesforce.
- Knowledge of nonprofit funding cycles and financial workflows (applications, approvals, contracting, disbursements, grantee reporting). Knowledge of general operational bottlenecks are helpful.
- Demonstrated thought leadership through blogs, Salesforce community contributions, or sector forums.
