NVIT anticipates a need for an Associate Vice President, Students at the Merritt or Burnaby Campus and invites applications from qualified candidates. This will be a full-time, ongoing exempt position and will commence as soon as a suitable candidate is available.

Job Summary/Responsibilities:

NVIT invites applications for the position of Associate Vice President, Students. This is a senior leadership role at British Columbia’s Indigenous public post-secondary institution. The AVP, Students will play a pivotal role in shaping the student experience by leading initiatives that support academic success, personal development, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for student services, including the Registrar’s Office; Marketing, Events & Communications; Library & Success Centre; Residence; and Daycare.

  • Oversee the Registrar’s Office, ensuring compliance with academic policies and the integrity of student records.

  • Lead and support the student services teams across multiple campuses.

  • Co-lead Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM) planning and implementation.

  • Enhance institutional communications and promote NVIT’s brand and values.

  • Ensure adherence to institutional policies and procedures related to student services.

  • Foster inclusive, trauma-informed approaches to student support and conflict resolution.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities and external partners.

  • A graduate degree and a minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in post-secondary education.

  • Demonstrated expertise in student affairs, enrolment management, or academic administration.

  • Comprehensive understanding of Indigenous cultures, protocols, and educational priorities.

  • Proven ability in strategic planning, team leadership, and policy development.

  • Commitment to learner-centred service and community engagement.

  • Willingness to travel within British Columbia and across Canada.

  • Understanding of Canada’s colonial history and the devastating impacts on Indigenous peoples and Indigenous ways of being and knowing;

  • Practice from a holistic, culturally safe and trauma-informed lens;

  • Knowledge of and appreciation for Indigenous languages and cultures, and Indigenous lived experiences;

  • Proven ability to build collaborative working relationships to achieve outcomes in the best interest of students and NVIT;

  • A demonstrated commitment to quality service to students and the public;
