The Opportunity:
Responsible for the planning, organization, management and evaluation of building maintenance, operations
and custodial services in line with corporate policies and procedures and all applicable legislation and
regulations to ensure the safe, efficient and timely condition of corporate building assets and properties.
What you will do:
• Plan, organize, manage, recommend, evaluate and implement all aspects of building maintenance,
operations and custodial services of assigned facilities in line with applicable legislation and
regulations.
- Develop, maintain and oversee all related work standards, procedures policies and ensure related
training and compliance of staff and contractors
- Manage employees in a manner consistent with District values, policies and procedures, including
selection, work scheduling, training and performance evaluation.
- Recommend, monitor and assign work to the appropriate qualified staff or contractors in accordance
with appropriate labour legislation and contracts and work load.
- Accountable for the safety and security of employees and workplaces and to ensure that employees
work safely and in compliance with relevant statutes and regulations and within the safe work
procedures and directives as established by the District.
- Recommend, participate and provide input into the preparation and administration of operating and
capital budgets related to building maintenance, operations and custodial services and ensure
expenditures are managed in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness management including annual review of emergency
preparedness policies and procedures and ongoing completion of all required emergency drills and
associated reports in assigned facilities.
- Ensure continued adherence to all codes, regulations, policies and procedures in relation to building,
plant and equipment operation, fire, health and safety and infection control prevention and
management.
- Manage, oversee and recommend the purchase of services from external contractors, including
obtaining and evaluating quotes, awarding, supervising and accepting the completion of the work.
- Act as the District’s Facilities Services representative in municipal facilities related organizations, stake
holder consultations, organizational meetings and open houses.
- Ensure compliance to all applicable regulatory requirements for all aspects of facilities management for
all assigned properties/facilities.
- Be an active member of the Inside Union and Outside Union Joint Health and Safety Committees.
- Chair/Coordinate the activities of the Administration Building and Provincial Court House Emergency
Evacuation Team. Participate in health and safety-related training
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you will need:
• Completion of a three (3) year post-secondary degree or diploma or applicable trade certification in a
related discipline.
- A minimum of five years progressively responsible experience successfully leading and managing a
multi-disciplinary team of staff, preferably in a unionized environment.
- Thorough knowledge of prevailing practices relating to building maintenance, operations and custodial
services.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and regulations including a
thorough knowledge of the operation of building mechanical electrical and life safety systems and the
Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and technological proficiency.
- A self-directed manager with excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal and written and
verbal communication skills.
- Proven interpersonal and functional leadership abilities and the ability to deliver and implement strong
operational standards and a consistent level of customer service.
- Strong oral and written communication, facilitation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills are required
to interface with multiple stakeholders in a variety of situations.
- Must show initiative, ability to receive and provide direction and ability to work with minimal
supervision.
- Demonstrated technological proficiency with a wide array of programs
- A valid driver's license is required.
