NVIT anticipates a requirement for one part-time term tutor at the Merritt campus. With one-time Skills Development Employment Benefit funding under the Labour Market Development Agreement, received by the Ministry of Advanced Education. This individual may be subject to variable scheduling based on institutional needs.

Job Summary:

The successful candidates will be responsible for tutoring students within their designated programs. The tutors are members of the Enrolment Services Division, and report to the Success Centre Manager. The incumbent must be willing to engage students in learning and support learner advancement in educational development goals with relevant tutoring and academic tools and support. The tutor will support learners in various subjects and collaborate with various members of the Enrolment Services team and divisions across the institute.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Provide personalized tutoring and academic mentoring for students;
  • Foster respectful and collaborative relationships with the Student Success Centre team, Elders, faculty, and staff to support student success;
  • Promote student engagement in campus workshops, learning labs, mentorship opportunities, events and cultural activities;
  • Support students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and across all platforms and modalities.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of equity and inclusion principles and recognize the value of fostering a community that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree with a major in English preferred;
  • Education and/or experience in Universal Design;
  • Understanding of Canada’s history and the devastating impacts on Indigenous peoples and Indigenous ways of being and knowing;
  • Promotion of holistic wellness, cultural safety, and relevancy, and trauma-informed practice;
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for Indigenous languages and cultures, and preferably Indigenous lived experiences;
  • Experience with Aboriginal adult learning facilitation and support;
  • Advanced competencies in: oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Able to work flexible hours on weekdays/evenings and weekends;
  • A demonstrated commitment to quality service to students and the public; and
  • Self-motivated, independent problem solver with enthusiastic initiative.
