Mechanical Lead – Technical Cooling Loop (TCL)

As demand for AI and cloud computing continues to accelerate, our client is expanding its engineering team to support the design and development of next-generation cooling technologies. This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative organization where engineers are involved throughout the full product lifecycle—from concept and design through testing, manufacturing, installation, and commercialization. We are seeking a Mechanical Lead – Technical Cooling Loop (TCL) to lead the end-to-end mechanical design and engineering execution of facility-side liquid cooling infrastructure supporting some of the world's largest technology companies. This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for owning the mechanical solution, driving engineering excellence, and mentoring project teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Mechanical Engineering Leadership Own the complete mechanical technical solution for Technical Cooling System (TCS) infrastructure packages from concept through installation. Translate customer requirements into complete, buildable engineering solutions with clearly defined scope, interfaces, responsibilities, and deliverables. Lead the mechanical system design for piping headers, spool assemblies, valve trains, filtration systems, buffer and expansion tanks, drip trays, leak detection integration, and related mechanical infrastructure. Serve as the principal mechanical design authority on awarded projects while coordinating external engineering resources when specialized expertise is required.
Engineering Design & Analysis
Lead detailed mechanical design activities for complex liquid cooling systems. Perform and oversee engineering analyses including piping stress, fluid dynamics, thermal expansion, pressure systems, and mechanical loading. Apply engineering best practices including GD&T, design-for-manufacturing, tolerance analysis, and engineering release processes. Ensure designs satisfy functional, manufacturing, serviceability, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
Design Reviews & Documentation
Lead engineering design reviews, technical decision-making, and design approvals. Provide technical direction and mentorship to supporting designers and engineers.
Develop and oversee complete engineering documentation including
P&IDs 3D CAD models and fabrication drawings Installation and interface drawings Bill of Materials (BOM) inputs As-built documentation Installation readiness packages Product Development & Risk Management Identify engineering risks early through DFMEA, Single Point of Failure analysis, and other structured engineering methodologies. Drive corrective actions through failure investigations and root cause analysis. Support prototype development, validation, commissioning, and product improvements. Ensure engineering solutions are safe, reliable, and scalable throughout the product lifecycle.
Manufacturing & Field Support
Collaborate closely with manufacturing, production, quality, and service teams during product launches. Support installation and commissioning by defining mounting requirements, structural loading, alignment, and mechanical interfaces. Troubleshoot complex production and field issues through system-level analysis and corrective action planning. Partner with Supply Chain on component selection, supplier support, and cost optimization initiatives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with project management, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and customer-facing teams. Coordinate external engineering consultants and specialized design resources when required. Support multiple concurrent engineering programs while maintaining quality, schedule, and technical excellence.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Current Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing is required. Minimum 10 years of mechanical engineering experience leading industrial mechanical design projects from concept through implementation. Extensive experience designing industrial fluid handling, piping, HVAC, or liquid cooling systems. Strong proficiency with SolidWorks and Autodesk Revit BIM. Experience producing fabrication, manufacturing, installation, and engineering documentation. Deep understanding of fluid dynamics, piping systems, pressure systems, thermal expansion, and mechanical design principles. Strong knowledge of engineering standards including UL, CSA, ASME Piping Codes, seismic standards, and applicable installation codes. Proven ability to lead technical design reviews and mentor engineering teams. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred
Experience designing liquid cooling infrastructure for data centres or mission-critical facilities. Experience with facility-side mechanical systems supporting high-performance computing or AI infrastructure. Experience coordinating external engineering consultants. Knowledge of DFMEA, Single Point of Failure analysis, and structured engineering risk assessment methodologies. Background in industrial equipment, HVAC, thermal management, piping systems, manufacturing, or other engineered product industries.
