Job Description
This position is responsible for day-to-day Lugger Truck Operation. May also be required to operate other clutch driven equipment as well as perform additional support services such as material handling and yard maintenance duties. All work is performed in a steel mill environment and will be worked as 12 hour rotating shifts. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Safely operate a lugger truck to transport scrap metal, slag bins, and other materials throughout the steel mill
- Pick up, secure, transport, and dump bins using lugger arms and related hydraulic systems
- Perform routine inspections of the truck, including brakes, hydraulics, tires, and safety equipment
- Operate a standard transmission vehicle confidently and safely
- Report equipment issues, hazards, or irregularities promptly
- Knowledge of air brake systems for proper handling and maintenance
- Assist with staging, organizing, and positioning scrap bins and containers around the facility
- Service a high-demand production customer with reliability and efficiency
- Good communication skills for coordinating with supervisor and customers
- Understand and follow the customer’s schedule to ensure timely operations
- Strong attention to safety protocols and compliance with regulations
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities
- This position is for an open vacancy with a training rate of $32.23 per hour and then $34.23 per hour.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

1 - 3 years’ experience operating clutch driven trucks

1-3 years' experience operating heavy equipment such as front-end loaders
-
Valid Driver’s license
-
Ability to do manual labor in an outdoor environment that may include elevated areas and extreme weather conditions.

Good communications skills, and the ability to read operating instructions.

Proactive in SAFETY and works well in a team environment.

Willing to submit to background check and drug screen
