Are you passionate about fostering growth and supporting teachers in their professional journeys? The Teacher Support Coordinator plays a crucial role in nurturing a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within our educational community. In this multifaceted position, you and your collaborative partner will maintain and enhance Delta’s Teacher Support Programs.
Building professional relationships rooted in collegiality and compassion, you’ll support a variety of your peers in a variety of ways:
- Facilitating networks of experienced teachers with groups of new-to-career or new-to-role teachers.
- Working one-on-one with teachers who seek specific support at any point in their career who would like a more focused, one-to-one experience.
Collaborating closely with the Learning Services team, you'll contribute to building district resources and supporting effective classroom practices. Additionally, you'll work closely with the Delta Teachers' Association (DTA), Employee Services, and other stake and rights-holders, ensuring effective communication and coordination. Reporting to a District Principal in Learning Services, you'll play a pivotal role in enhancing teacher development and student success.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and enhance mentorship program in alignment with the District vision.
- Provide strength-based, non-evaluative support to teachers in collegial, compassionate, and confidential ways.
- Lead a teacher network characterized by trust, respect, and open communication, supporting experienced teachers in providing valuable support to early career teachers and one another.
- Provide guidance and support to teachers, empowering them to develop strong relationships with early career teachers (ECTs) wherein the ECTs experience a meaningful sense of belonging.
- Collaborate with Learning Services team to support teacher and student success.
- Onboard new teachers and Teacher Candidates to Delta.
- Provide ongoing support and connection for new teachers and Teacher Candidates.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of the programs.
- Design and facilitate adult learning.
- Stay current and model current practices regarding universal design for learning, reporting and assessment for learning, and classroom climate and management.
- Provide constructive feedback, facilitate reflective practices, and support teachers in setting and achieving professional goals.
Skills and Criteria:
- Minimum 10 years teaching experience in BC public schools.
- Demonstrated ability in mentoring and coaching educational professionals.
- Deep understanding of the importance of relationality and its impact on professional growth and instructional excellence
- Comfortable in both Secondary and Elementary settings.
- Thrives in collaborative partnerships.
- Effective multi-modal communicator, including a finely tuned ability to listen and intuit what is needed.
- Must have an appreciative lens on and be open-minded about the myriad ways of teaching and learning.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in highly nuanced, complex contexts.
- Knowledge and experience in designing effective learning in a context where diversity is the norm.
- Ability to model current pedagogical practices.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate SEL principles into practice and work with colleagues to enhance teacher and learner well-being, resilience, and classroom climate.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, case manage, and foster a collaborative environment.
