NATURE & SCOPE

In this role, the Accounting and Reporting Analyst ensures the YMCA of Niagara can deliver on its mission by providing accurate, timely, and meaningful data insights. The position is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting on information that helps leaders make informed decisions, measure program outcomes, ensure accountability to funders, and continuously improve services that impact children, youth, families, and the broader Niagara community.

The Accounting and Reporting Analyst is also accountable for preparing funding and financial reporting requirements of the YMCA of Niagara to ensure compliance with all legal, contractual, and regulatory obligations. This includes timely remittance of required reports, maintaining accuracy of supporting documentation, and ensuring all funding agreements and accounting standards are fully met. The role works closely with all operational teams to ensure financial integrity, compliance, and consistency in reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Collection & Analysis

  • Gather data from multiple systems and sources (membership, program registration, HR, Child Care, finance).
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data for reporting and analysis.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and insights that support program evaluation and decision-making.
  • Troubleshoot data issues and ensure data quality across systems.

Report Creation & Data Visualization

  • Design, build, and maintain recurring and ad hoc reports, dashboards, and scorecards.
  • Develop clear data visualizations to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
  • Provide analysis to support grant applications, government reporting, funding agreements, and community impact reports.
  • Maintain accurate backup documentation and filing of reports for audit purposes.

Data Interpretation & Insights

  • Translate complex data into accessible insights for leadership, managers, and frontline staff.
  • Explain the meaning of data, highlight key findings, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Analyze monthly financial results to ensure accuracy in reporting and compliance with funding agreements.

Financial & Accounting Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process monthly reconciliations and support month-end closing processes.
  • Prepare and process year end reconciliations, reports and closing processes.
  • Prepare and process variance reports for financial and operational review.
  • Ensure all contractual and funding agreement requirements are met.
  • Supports the audit processes.
  • Provide backup accounting support, including Accountant and Accounts Payable functions during vacation or absence.
  • Apply accounting principles, financial controls, and regulatory compliance in reporting and analysis. Assist in the preparation of the budgeting and forecasting processes.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with departments such as Community, Child Care, Health & Fitness, Employment Services, to understand and meet reporting needs.
  • Work closely with IT, HR, and Payroll to ensure consistent data quality and compliance.
  • Present findings and recommendations in a clear, accessible way to non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to a culture of evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement.

Process Improvement & Standards

  • Identify opportunities to streamline data collection, reporting, and automation.
  • Support the development and implementation of organizational reporting frameworks and best practices.
  • Follow accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and data governance policies in all reporting.
  • Participate in training sessions and team meetings to ensure continuous development and alignment.

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of the YMCA.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Data Analytics, or Accounting.

  • 2+ years of experience in a reporting, data analysis, or business intelligence role (preferably in a non-profit, social services, or community-focused setting).

  • Advanced Excel and database management (SQL).

  • Experience with business intelligence/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Upon hiring, a clear and satisfactory criminal record check inclusive of the vulnerable sector search (PVSC) issued for the YMCA of Niagara
