About the role
POSITION SCOPE: The Engineer – Quality Assurance is responsible for the tracking and integration of all aspects of products through their entire program life cycle. This includes areas such as design approval, packaging, labeling, production approval, etc. The goal is to oversee all items from concept through to delivery in a timely, efficient manner, and maintain their accuracy throughout program life in regards to both product and related specifications (i.e. packaging improvements, etc.).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Establishes and maintains target sample specifications for new product development (sample management)
- Communicates key deliverables to the awarded supplier
- Follows the program launch through all phases of development to ensure on time product delivery
- Develops and updates packaging and pallet instructions
- Establishes and updates product quality targets and instructions for new items for Receiving Inspection
- Produces label templates as required for new and existing items
- Optimizes container loading and enforces packaging standards for all new and existing vendors
- Initiates and completes Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to resolve issues and work with the supplier to implement the corrective action for any launch issue as they arise
- Monitors the corrective actions to minimize program delay
- Assists in the training and monitoring of Receiving Inspectors and Rework functions and personnel
- Assists the Purchasing team with on-boarding of new vendors for existing items, related product approvals, and new vendor set up requirements.
- Continues to provide ideas for improvement with regards to products and packaging
- Monitors receiving inspections and trains new inspectors
- Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
This position also requires:
- Demonstrated experience and ability working with moderately complex information as related to analysis, problem solving, and reasoning to perform job duties with effectiveness
- Demonstrated accountability for quality, accuracy and adherence to work instructions with some discretion required when exercising duties within pre-determined limits and procedures
- Demonstrated capability to provide guidance to other staff as needed in relation to the execution of job duties and assigned projects. - Direction is provided regarding somewhat complex work that has general instructions
- Demonstrated supervisory skills of a small number of individuals
- Demonstrated understanding that work contributions have some influence beyond the immediate department or organization and as such duties are executed with care, accuracy and compliance to instructions
- Demonstrated ability to apply creative problem solving and idea generation to work tasks as required
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with peers within a work area or have routine contact with customers or suppliers. - Interactions with internal or external customers involves common courtesy, providing requisite and correct information along with straightforward support.
- Understanding that work efforts may have a minor impact on the employer brand and public reputation and as such ensure that behavior and communications shall be professional and accurate at all times
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education required in a Quality Engineering related field.
- Minimum of 4-7 years of relevant industry experience in a similar capacity, preferably from within the construction or building material industry.
- Demonstrated experience working with customers, manufacturers and/or suppliers required along with the ability to practically interpret ISO and ASTM standards
- Proficiency in creating technical specifications.
- ISO experience an asset, along with internal auditor training and experience.
- Project management training an asset.
- Proficiency with Excel (i.e. vLOOKUP, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and graphing) are a must.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Must possess skills and experience in layout/process design, AutoCAD, and analysis for calculating cycle time, task time, etc.
- Ability to collect and interpret Statistical and Product related data
- Previous exposure to an ERP/WMS system required, SAP will be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability balancing customer expectations and company interests.
- High attention to detail, results oriented, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence for enhanced performance, relationship building and conflict resolution.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Most work is performed in a standard office environment with limited exposure to adverse conditions or health and safety risks. May require the use of PPE to minimize exposure to hazards.
- Work requires the occasional ability to bend, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, stretch.
- Position requires low level of sustained visual attention, moderate manual dexterity on a regular basis with sitting at length with the opportunity to change posture and position
