Position Summary Reports to: Environmental Manager The Environmental Permits and Approvals Coordinator have the defined authority for obtaining environmental Contractor Permits, Licences, Approvals and Agreements and ensuring compliance and the day-to-day implementation of the environmental obligations set out in the Project Agreement.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage all environmental Permits, Licences, Approvals and Agreements associated with the Project on a day-to-day basis;
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with relevant Governmental Authorities and Stakeholders through the Contracting Authority Representative;
  • Ensure that environmental plans and records related to Permits, Licences, Approvals and Agreements are uploaded into registries as required by Governmental Authorities.
  • Coordinate with other specialty consultants, contractors and Governmental Authorities, in accordance with Schedule 18 – Communication and Public Engagement Protocol;
  • Ensure that external Stakeholder agencies (including the Municipality, TRCA, MTO, TTC, etc.) are engaged when appropriate to obtain feedback as necessary.
  • Coordinate internal and external regulatory approval processes.
  • Lead the coordination and scheduling of meetings with Stakeholders, as needed.
  • Direct the preparation and submission to the Contracting Authority of all plans, reports, documents and other information required by Schedule 2 – Permits, Licences, Approvals and Agreements.
  • Ensuring environmental and sustainability issues are addressed and requirements are met in accordance with the Environmental Reference Documents, Additional Environmental Reports, and this Agreement.
  • Ensuring effective development, tracking and monitoring of environmental and sustainability metrics in line with best practice standards.

Education And Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of work-related experience in municipal planning, building, construction and/or engineering.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in planning, environmental planning, geography or another related discipline
  • Knowledge of and experience acquiring permits, licenses and approvals for major infrastructure and transit projects is essential.

Job Requirements

  • Experience in successfully managing the process of procuring all environmental permits and approvals on transit projects in Ontario.
  • Knowledge of Ontario’s Transit Project Assessment Process and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario)
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental policies, procedures and legislation.
  • Experience with carrying out effective stakeholder engagement related to securing Federal, Provincial and Municipal permits and approvals.
  • Ability to liaise with other specialty consultants, contractors and Governmental Authorities
  • Experience with similar projects in the Province of Ontario.
