About the role

The Optical Manager will be a new and expanded role for the company as it continues to explore growth strategies across its already extensive client base. This position combines hands-on optical expertise with operational and team leadership, supporting both the daily function of the practice and its long-term success.

Functionally, the Optical Manager will perform all core duties of an optician: filling prescriptions, advising on lenses and contact lenses, assisting customers with frame selection, and ensuring every client receives expert, personalized guidance. Beyond clinical responsibilities, this role will oversee the operational management of the practice, allowing the doctors to focus on patient care while you lead the team, enhance business processes, marketing, sales and ensure the seamless running of daily operations.

Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Demonstrate exceptional knowledge and skill in all areas of opticianry and optometric assistance.
  • Manage inventory for contact lenses, spectacle frames, lenses, and optical supplies.
  • Oversee all dispensary orders, returns, redos, warranties, and credits.
  • Handle advanced administrative functions such as processing returns, invoice adjustments, and override pricing.
  • Help to ensure all optical and lab equipment is maintained and operating efficiently.
  • Support staff with day-to-day decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Lead and participate in team training, onboarding, and market / sales development initiatives.
  • Foster a positive work culture centered on professionalism, collaboration, and excellence in patient care.
  • Coordinate and delegate tasks effectively across the front-of-house team, fulfilling outstanding organization efforts across a busy practice, without ever losing sight of outstanding customer care and attention.
  • Provide management with insights and recommendations on operational improvements, policies, and business growth opportunities.
  • Create enhancements for the already outstanding flat culture, where collaboration, kindness, and empathy are key to the human success of the practice generally.
  • Assist with implementing new and existing processes, programs, promotions, and policies.
  • Liaise with suppliers, partners, landlords, and other business contacts as needed, enhancing relationships and really cementing supplier and lab communications and relationships.
  • Maintain smooth inter-clinic communications and uphold practice standards at all times.
  • Above all duties, the Optical Manager will ensure ethics within the business, both legally and personal through their day-to-day activities.

This role will ideally suit a Registered Optician (College of Opticians) with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. The successful candidate will bring both professional expertise and a strategic mindset, helping guide the practice toward continued growth, efficiency, and outstanding patient service.
