The Public Safety and Social Development Department at the City of Chilliwack is seeking two dynamic individuals to fill the casual position of Prisoner Guard.
Are you the one we’re looking for?
The incumbent in this class will be required to perform a variety of guard, security and administrative duties, varying in degree of responsibility and complexity; ensuring the safety and security of prisoners while detained in the RCMP cellblock; monitoring and documenting in the log book all movement of prisoners in and out of cells and physical checks of prisoners as per RCMP policy. When prisoners not being held, aid Detachment to photograph new staff and Members; collect protected paperwork for weekly shredding; label operational files for Records; fingerprint for Pardon requests etc. at Front Counter for General Public Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision in accordance with established routine and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Supervisor.
If you have the following knowledge, skills and abilities we encourage you to apply:

Must have completed a minimum of grade l0 education, with previous experience in guarding or security practices OR the equivalent combination of training and experience;

Must have sound knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures used in the care and custody of prisoners;

Able to understand written and verbal instructions in English and accurately complete required forms;

Able to type a minimum of 30 net words per minute;
-
Able to operate all equipment associated with guarding duties;
-
Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials and other members of staff;
-
Able to effectively control and care for prisoners when detained;
-
Able to recognize and rectify and/or report upon actual and potential safety hazards;
-
Able to qualify for and maintain the required security clearance for the position. Failure on the part of the employee to satisfy this requirement will necessitate the removal of the employee from the position.
The hourly rate of pay in this position is $34.35 (2025 rate).
