Responsibilities OVERALL PURPOSE:

Responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of SkyTrain electrical power systems (Wayside). These systems include propulsion power substations, stations’ electrical distribution, uninterruptible power supplies, associated Guideway electrical equipment and the OMC electrical systems. The Power Technician may be required to monitor and assist contractors. The Power Technician may be required to support Capital projects.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Works independently or under the direction of the Power Supervisor to accomplish and signoff work as repaired to standard. Completes scheduled or unscheduled maintenance and repair functions in the electrical area including building power systems, propulsion power systems, UPSs, TVS and other electrical equipment.
  • Interprets maintenance manuals, electrical schematics and drawings, and prepares drawings or schematics to communicate with others in performance of work...
  • Makes recommendations for changes to electrical hardware and switching gear plus procedural changes that become evident during performance of the SkyTrain maintenance effort.
  • Performs inspections, tests and repairs, prepares reports as required.
  • Accounts for all materials used in performance of the maintenance effort.
  • Repairs, maintains and tests 12.5kV and/or 25kV AC electrical switchgears, transformers, protection relays and associated control components.
  • Repairs, maintains and tests 600V DC distribution power rectifier banks, DC breakers, AARUs, protection & control system and other associate traction power supply equipment.
  • Repairs, maintains and tests 600V AC power distribution system, UPSs, motors, panels, lightings, air conditioning and related equipment.
  • Inspects and troubleshoots electrical circuits using the appropriate testing equipment.
  • Creates WOs to track defects found and signs off work as being completed to standard and enters into Database system using.
  • Operates a motor vehicle with valid B.C. Driver’s Licence.
  • Performs activities in conformance to Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Attends technical and safety training programs to continually upgrade skills.
  • Handles emergencies and failures in accordance with established procedures through immediate response and quick action.
  • Escorts contractors to work on BCRTC property and/or ATC territory as required.
  • Performs related duties as assigned such being of a minor nature which do not affect the value of the job.

Safety Requirements As per WorkSafeBC regulations, this job requires an annual fit test and may necessitate the use of a respirator. In either case, the employee must be clean shaven. Any exemption requests should be raised to Occupational Health and/or Labour Relations for consideration.

Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school graduation or equivalent.

Red Seal Certification for Industrial Electrician

Minimum of (5) years recent maintenance experience in the last 6 years at the journeyperson level.

Experience in the maintenance and repair of 12.5 kV and/or 25 kV AC electrical switchgear, transformers, protectionrelays and associatedcontrols.

Experience in 600 VAC distribution equipment and associated control circuits.

Other Information Knowledge of the relevantelectrical codes that ensure a safe workingand operating environment.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in maintenance and repair of 600 VDCpropulsion power substation rectifiers, switchgear and associated controls.

Experiencewith large uninterruptablepower supply units is an asset.

Experiencewith electronic circuitsand high power semiconductor devices are an asset.

Experiencewith programmable logic controllers is an asset.

Experience in electrical construction work is an asset.

Experience in trouble shooting electrical or electronic circuits utilizing a memoryrecorder is an asset.

Capital project support work may be required.

Shift work is required.

Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License.

Other Information Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule 40 hours per week.

Work Designation Resident

This position works predominately on-site

Rate of Pay Wage: $59.69 per hour

Please note: All new employees will be subject to a 6-week trainee rate at 75% of the hourly rate with the remainder of the first year at 90% of the hourly rate.
