OVERVIEW Vertex Professional Services Ltd. (“Vertex”) is seeking a Forestry Field Specialist to support field execution, environmental site assessments, forestry planning, GIS mapping, wildlife and bird sweeps, watercourse classification, construction scouting, and project documentation across Central and Northern Alberta. CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS 0 to 4 years of related experience in forestry, environmental science, land reclamation, biology, or similar field work. Diploma or degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Land Reclamation, Biology, or a related discipline is preferred. Professional designation in Alberta, eligibility as an RPFT, Professional Biologist, or related environmental/forestry designation is considered an asset; Experience with wildlife/bird sweeps, mitigation recommendations, watercourse classification, applicable wildlife regulations, forest measurements, harvest layout, watercourse/wetland assessments, or utility corridor work is an asset. Strong GPS, compass, orienteering, field note-taking, remote navigation, Microsoft Office, and basic GIS skills; ArcGIS Online experience is preferred. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or as part of a field team. RESPONSIBILITIES Complete forestry, environmental, and pre-disturbance field assessments, including GPS data collection, site notes, photos, and field documentation. Support forest operations and planning work, including timber salvage planning, harvest layout support, hazard tree assessments, utility patrols, and access reviews. Conduct or assist with wildlife and bird sweeps, watercourse classification, field observations, and recommended mitigation measures to support project requirements and approval conditions. Accompany senior staff and construction personnel during right-of-way, lease, and access scouting to confirm field conditions and project constraints. Provide GIS mapping, desktop review, field planning, concise summaries, reports, notifications, and project documentation for internal and client use. Work safely in remote locations, including areas accessed by ATV, snowmobile, or on foot, with field shifts that may extend up to 10 days.

LOCATION Sherwood Park office, with field work throughout Northern and Central Alberta; flexible remote work may be available when project demands allow.
