The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Specialist, Weighing, Sampling & Moisture Determination (WSMD) to join our Copper Commercial

This is a permanent position. This position can be based out of any location where VBM operate (Toronto, Brazil, Switzerland & London)

As a Specialist WSMD, you will oversee the Weighing, Sampling, Moisture Determination (WSMD) and Assay Exchange processes, for Copper and PGM intermediate products; and plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of the products. The focus of this position lies on acting as the leading decision-maker for accuracy in weights and moisture determination in VBM operations as well as at customer’s ports of discharge, assay exchanges, accuracy of assays between internal and external laboratories, playing a pivotal role in driving commercial decisions related to WSMD commercial terms and ensuring adherence to quality standards. Your experience and skills will allow you to work closely with production, quality control, and logistics teams to maintain the integrity of the product throughout the supply chain

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Provide leadership in the commercial aspects of WSMD and assay exchange activities, driving operational excellence and maximizing value creation. Drive a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence within the Commercial Department.
  • Evaluate weight differences between VBM operations and customers, identify root cause of variances and implement processes to minimize losses. Analyze internal weighing procedures to ensure precise measurements for production and shipping.
  • Oversee the assay exchange process, ensuring accuracy and timely transfer of information to internal and external interested party. Facilitate the exchange of assay data with external laboratories and assays providers for sample analysis.
  • Record and analyze data from weighing, sampling, and moisture determination processes, and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders. Develop and monitor performance metrics related to WSMD and assay exchange, preparing comprehensive reports and presentations. Manage improvements to the current Assays database and business intelligence reports, and results tracking framework.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to negotiate and execute contracts, integrating quality, WSMD, and assay specifications into commercial agreements. Work closely with production, quality control, and logistics teams to ensure seamless operations and product quality.
  • Ensure compliance with international best practices in WSMD processes at final receiver facilities. Stay updated on relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices related to WSMD and Assays Exchange.

About You

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Metallurgy, Engineering or a related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in weighing, sampling, and moisture determination processes, in the mining or metals industry.

Skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge of laboratory procedures, assay methods, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, with a track record of managing cross-functional teams and driving organizational success.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to analyze complex data. Proficiency in data management and reporting software
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with multiples teams
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical and commercial concepts to diverse stakeholders
