YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE
We are looking for a Sample Receiver - Trainee in 6660 Campobello Rd, Mississauga, ON L5N 2L9 CAN. Your mission will be to:
- Shipping and Receiving: Coordinate the packing and shipping of samples and supplies to clients and other locations. Use computer systems to create and print waybills and track shipments. Organize and maintain shipping materials, such as coolers and ice packs.
- Sample Processing: Receive, inspect, and log sample submissions into the LIMS. Identify and resolve any discrepancies or issues with submissions. Coordinate the transfer of samples to the correct lab departments for testing.
- Supply Chain Support: Manage the receiving, storage, retrieval, and delivery of lab supplies.
Sample Collection Support: Conduct off-site sample collection in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner following aseptic technique. Must have reliable access to your own vehicle to be able to drive, conduct client sampling and transport materials as needed - Lab Material Management: Receive and inspect lab samples and materials. Use the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and other software to accurately document and track the location of items. Ensure all materials are stored in their appropriate locations and disposed of safely. Retrieve items for distribution to lab areas or for external shipment.
Key Accountability/Responsibilities: What specifically is this job expected to accomplish?
- Sample and Supply Logistics:
Receive, inspect, and document incoming samples and materials.
Log all items accurately into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and other tracking programs.
Organize and store samples and supplies at the appropriate temperatures and locations.
Fulfill sample and supply requests by retrieving and distributing items to the correct lab areas.
Dispose of samples and materials safely after their retention period is complete.
Coordinate and prepare items for shipping, including packing, creating waybills, and arranging courier pickups. - Conduct off-site sampling procedures:
Prepare all necessary equipment, documents (like the Chain of Custody forms), and supplies.
Drive to the client site (must have access to your own vehicle) and adhere to all safety and hygiene protocols.
Use proper aseptic technique to collect samples, ensuring accuracy and integrity.
Pack and transport samples securely back to the lab.
Complete and submit all required documentation.
Must have reliable access to your own vehicle to be able to drive, conduct client sampling and transport materials as needed - Quality and Compliance:
Review all submissions to identify and report discrepancies, such as missing samples, incorrect paperwork, or issues with temperature and condition.
Create and maintain essential documents including job entry sheets, Chain of Custody (COC) forms, and shipping records.
Adhere strictly to all safety practices, policies, and procedures.
Maintain a clean, organized, and secure work environment. - Inventory and Stock Management:
Conduct regular inventory counts to monitor stock levels. Support with supplies ordering.
Receive, unpack, and stock incoming supplies.
Clean and maintain shipping materials, such as coolers and ice packs. - Communication and Collaboration:
Communicate with team members and internal clients to resolve operational issues and meet deadlines.
Provide support to other lab logistics workflows as needed. - Employee Conduct and Professionalism:
Maintain a professional and respectful attitude in all interactions with colleagues and internal clients.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and ethical conduct at all times.

YOUR PROFILE
Skills and Knowledge: What skills and knowledge are used to carry out job responsibilities and solve problems?
- Must have reliable access to your own vehicle.
- Ability to drive alone to and from client sites and stores for sampling/purchasing projects (eg. G licence with a vehicle)
- Proficient with computer systems and data management; demonstrates strong keyboarding and mousing skills, navigates software and file structures efficiently, and confidently executes data entry and retrieval across multiple sources.
- Possesses the ability to strategically identify information/data locations to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Excellent attention to detail, retention of knowledge, and accuracy is required
- Confident communication skills (both written and verbal skills in English)
- High level of work production in fast-paced lab environment
- Can-do attitude, self-starter; willing to do what it takes to get the job done
- Energetic, positive attitude who thrives in a fast-paced, team environment
- Ability to prioritize and adapt to changes is required, ability to multi-task when needed Ability to work independently as well as engage with others when required
- Preferred qualifications:
- Familiarization with ordering software and inventory management practices is an asset.
- Previous warehouse experience is an asset.
- Microbiology and chemistry knowledge is an asset.
- Experience in a laboratory environment is an asset.
Working Conditions: physical work environment, physical and mental effort, visual/listening attention and travel
- Full availability for any shift, any day, including nights, weekends and holidays
- Travel to and from client sites for on-site sampling, or to stores for purchasing
- Overtime required depending on volume
- Work with appropriate personal protective equipment is required (lab coat, safety glasses, etc.)
- Frequent bending, lifting, and carrying of samples/containers is required
- Must be able to lift up to 40lbs
- Repetitive lifting of manageable weights is required
- Must maintain an attention to detail over an extended period of time
- Exposure to all types of food products (including allergens and raw meat/seafood) in varying conditions Working around
- strong odours and noise may be required
- Long periods of standing, and working on a computer
- Long periods of sitting may also be required
- Frequent walking between departments for sample transfer or coordination
- Occasional exposure to narrow working spaces
- Exposure to cold (walk-in fridge/freezers, seasonal temperatures)
- Exposure to heat (walk-in incubators, seasonal temperatures)
- Working with chemicals is required
