Simulcast Switching Operator
POSITION SUMMARY
The Simulcast Switching Operator is responsible for the precise delivery and monitoring of Simulcast Switching services. This role ensures that Canadian broadcast substitutions are executed accurately and in full compliance with CRTC guidelines. The ideal candidate possesses a high degree of technical troubleshooting ability and can maintain high levels of accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Execute manual and automated switching for all sites while adhering to CRTC guidelines.

Input programming schedules from Mediastats into the designated CPS client.

Perform live system switches and post text-based content for the channel as required.

Monitor and validate all events requiring Canadian-over-American substitutions, ensuring accuracy of program, episode, and video/audio quality
-
Maintain a working knowledge of the Telestream Inspector application for active monitoring.

Validate start and end times for all programmed events.

Manage program interruptions:
-
Default switches if American programming interrupts the feed.
-
Ensure Canadian news interruptions remain untouched during substitutions.

Investigate and resolve operational errors or technical issues immediately upon discovery.
-
Correct any technical issues within a 3–5 minute window.

Coordinate with the Network Operations Center (NOC) regarding channel disturbances or application problems.

Compile detailed reports for every occurrence or technical problem and maintain daily contact with the client Supervisor
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Precision: Ability to maintain a 98% accuracy rate while multitasking under pressure.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with switching equipment, CPS applications, and monitoring tools like Telestream Inspector.
- Communication: Strong reporting skills and the ability to follow instructions from the NOC during technical outages.
- Flexibility: Must be available for scheduled and ad-hoc shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
