About this opportunity:

As a Maintenance Technician, Pipefitter at our Christina Lake facility, you’ll play a hands-on role in supporting safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations. Reporting to the Coordinator, PDO & Offsites Mechanical, you’ll provide expert maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair for a wide range of mechanical assets , including pumps, piping, valves, and PSVs. You’ll work closely with both Cenovus teams and service providers, ensuring work is executed to the highest standards of quality, compliance, and safety.

While this vacancy is currently at Christina Lake, this p osting could be used to fill vacancies at any of the Oil Sands Operations sites (Christina Lake, Christina Lake North, Foster Creek, or Sunrise, based on business need ).

Work Environment:

Foster Creek & Christina Lake

  • This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation

  • Foster Creek and Christina Lake has full-service camp facilities

  • Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations

  • Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton

  • Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche , AB

  • Christina Lake North is serviced by flight hubs in Calgary and Edmonton

Sunrise

  • This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation

  • Sunrise is located approximately 100 km northeast of the City of Fort McMurray and is a fly in/ fly out remote camp-based position.

  • Cenovus will provide transportation to Sunrise from designated hubs out of Calgary and Edmonton

  • At the Sunrise site, employees will be provided comfortable camp accommodations and recreational amenities

What you’ll do :

  • Perform and oversee troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance activities on mechanical equipment across SAGD processing facilities and field locations.

  • Support facility engineering on approved Management of Change (MOC) scopes of work.

  • Identify opportunities to enhance safety, reliability, and cost efficiency within your area.

  • Ensure all work meets industry standards and Cenovus requirements, including robust compliance practices.

  • Conduct work safely and consistently with Cenovus Environmental Health & Safety protocols and Safe Work Practices.

  • Maintain accurate calibration, repair, and regulatory documentation, including ABSA and PEIMS requirements.

  • Communicate effectively across operations, maintenance, and leadership teams and uphold superior housekeeping standards.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including site ‑ specific training, process enhancements, and providing relief supervision when required .

Who you are :

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • L egally authorized to work in Canada.

  • Journeyman Pipefitter certification required ; Red Seal designation preferred.

  • 5+ years of Oil & Gas industry experience as a Pipefitter.

  • Multi ‑ skilled experience or additional trade designations ( dual ticket Pipefitter/Millwright or AWT (Area Work Team) concept) considered an asset.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; SAP experience preferred.

  • Experience operating equipment such as forklifts , deck cranes, and zoom booms.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments .

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines . A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate .
