Job Summary
Student Recruitment and Marketing (SRM) supports Dalhousie University’s strategic priorities by working with faculties, departments, and units to tell the stories of the students, faculty, and staff who make Dalhousie an extraordinary place. Reporting to the Director, Creative Studio, while working closely with the Director of Marketing, the Visual Media Manager supports the Creative Studio’s strategic plan and advances the university’s priorities, with a particular focus on recruitment and reputation through the development of engaging video and photography deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead and supervise visual media staff, setting priorities, managing workloads and calendars, approving overtime, and providing coaching, mentorship, and professional development.

Serve as the operational lead and sole intake authority for all university photo and video requests, independently triaging, prioritizing, approving, or declining work based on strategy, capacity, and service standards.

Manage visual media operations, including capacity planning, budgeting and cost estimates, workflow systems, asset management, vendor relationships, and consistent application of brand and quality standards.

Develop and execute visual media strategy aligned with recruitment, campaign, and reputation goals, providing strategic and creative counsel to senior stakeholders.

Lead creative direction for major initiatives and proactively capture high‑priority, evergreen visual content that supports long‑term marketing and recruitment needs.

Act as a senior production lead, serving as primary photographer and videographer, delivering high‑quality video and photography, editing final content, using approved AI tools, including Adobe Photoshop and all other Adobe AI integration software, and providing evening or weekend coverage as required.
Note
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
-
Undergraduate degree in a related discipline with three to five years’ relevant experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience). Experience can include work for an organization, agency, and/or freelance assignments.

Must be highly creative and have experience identifying target audiences/stories and devising videos that engage, inform, and motivate.

Exceptional communication skills, strong writing abilities, and highly developed interpersonal, project management and leadership skills.

Proficiency with equipment required to capture high-quality video and audio (i.e., equipment, editing software, etc.). Must-have a solid understanding of the video production process.

Ability to act autonomously, comfortably, and consistently, exercise discretion, and show good judgment.

Experience managing and mentoring a team.
